IN THEATRES AND ON PARAMOUNT+ NOW!
It can be challenging to turn a beloved children’s book into a movie. I’m not talking about something modern. I’m talking about something written years ago. Something you grew up on. I read a LOT as a kid, and I’ve seen a lot of books that I loved that did NOT make the transition well. I have also seen a handful that have become classics in their own right. Clifford the Big Red Dog has finally made it to the big time, and while it’s probably too early to tell if it will become a classic, I can definitely say it has made the transition from page to screen successfully and I am pleased with the result.
When Emily Elizabeth goes to a magical animal rescue, she falls in love with the cutest little red puppy. Even though her uncle Casey says no to adopting him (knowing that Emily’s mom would be less than happy and they would get evicted) Clifford still somehow manages to stow away in her bookbag. The next morning, the cute little red puppy has turned into a cute gigantic red puppy. With all the puppy instincts but the body of a smallish elephant, Clifford gets into all the usual puppy trouble you can imagine, but multiplied by about 1000.
Clifford the Big Red Dog is a funny, sometimes gross, lovable movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Watching Clifford win over the neighborhood was a treat. This movie made me want to go back in time and find all the Clifford books from my childhood, alas, long since gone.
If you grew up on Clifford, like me, take your kids and introduce them now to this adorable red doggy. You won’t regret it.
About CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG
When middle-schooler Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp) meets a magical animal rescuer (John Cleese) who gifts her a little, red puppy, she never anticipated waking up to find a giant ten-foot hound in her small New York City apartment. While her single mom (Sienna Guillory) is away for business, Emily and her fun but impulsive uncle Casey (Jack Whitehall) set out on an adventure that will keep you on the edge-of-your-seat as our heroes take a bite out of the Big Apple. Based on the beloved Scholastic book character, Clifford will teach the world how to love big!
Jack Whitehall, Darby Camp, Tony Hale, Sienna Guillory, David Alan Grier, Russell Wong and John Cleese
Thanks to Paramount Pictures, I also had the opportunity to participate in an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG stars, Darby Camp (Emily Elizabeth) and Jack Whitehall (Uncle Casey) as well as the Director, Walt Becker and Producer, Jordan Kerner.
THANK YOU Paramount Pictures!
I asked Jack Whitehall to share his feelings about the evolution of his character, Uncle Casey, throughout the film. See what he said!
I asked Director, Walter Becker and Producer, Jordan Kerner if there was a certain scene or moment when they knew they had accomplished their goal of paying proper homage to Clifford and confirmed the film did justice for this iconic character. See what they said!
