Have a Healthy and fun Valentine with Altar’d

by Erik

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? We usually do. That doesn’t mean we always exchange gifts. More often we try to have a quiet romantic dinner or just spend time together. Sometimes we take a short trip (Ok, we’ve done that once).  Sometimes we are thousands of miles apart (Ok, so technically that only happened once too).

Regardless of what we do, Valentine’s Day is coming and a lot of people will celebrate it in some fashion. For some that might mean a bouquet of roses or box of chocolates delivered at work. For others it might mean a trip or romantic dinner. Others couples might actually do an activity. For some that might mean eating a whole crate of chocolates that they sent to themselves and binge watching a Scooby-Doo Marathon. Not that I have ever done that. Whatever you do, it can be easy to go overboard a little on Valentine’s Day. Whether it’s an overindulgent meal or too many chocolates (seriously, who keeps bringing up chocolates? Oh wait, I did. Well I certainly have never done that. Shoot, I already said that. Well really, I haven’t. I’m sticking to that story and nobody can…ooooh chocolate!!!

Ok, I give up. I have gone overboard on Valentines. There was the year we went out and I ate WAYYY too much sushi. Or the year I bought three boxes of chocolates, and then ate 2 before giving the third to my wife. Hi dear!! Or the year I was stranded in the Newark airport while a blizzard shut down the whole east coast. So maybe that last one wasn’t really my fault. The point is, you can go overboard, but it’s just as easy to go easy and have a healthy fun Valentine’s day that is just as romantic.

Do you fondue? We do and we love it. Fondue at home and instead of messing with the chocolate course, just get a few chocolate dipped strawberries and concentrate on the entrée course. It’s so easy to stick with lean proteins and healthy veggies when you are fonduing (yes I have no idea if you can turn that into a verb, don’t judge me). Or instead of an indulgent meal, plan a couple’s massage. Not into massages? Go for a walk. Seriously. I know it’s February, but there are plenty of places where it’s not cold in February (like Cincinnati right now). Or if it is cold, go ice skating. Twirling around the ice with someone you love, stopping for a hot chocolate. Talk about super romantic. She’ll love you for it.

Or if you want to just light a couple candles and snuggle on the couch and watch Altar’d on Z Living. See the lengths that some couples will go to to make sure their happiest day (no, not Valentine’s Day, their wedding) gets off on the right foot. Imagine making a commitment to your fiance that would involve you not seeing them for 90 days. Not just any 90 days, the 90 days immediately before your wedding. Now that’s commitment. Check out a sneak peek of Altar’d below, and be sure to join us on Twitter as we have a live chat during the episode tomorrow.

Altar’d separates soon-to-be-married couples for 90 days as they each complete their wedding weight loss transformation, guided by the hosts and fitness experts, Chris Marhefka and Erin Stutland. Their journeys are both inspiring and emotional as they get ready to reveal themselves to each other on their wedding day. The show airs Tuesdays 8-9pm
