Heart Health Month

February is not just the month of love; it’s also the month dedicated to matters of the heart-quite literally! But for me, March is Heart Health Month. 5 days ago was the anniversary of my father’s death from a massive heart attack. Today is the anniversary of his funeral. It’s crucial to shine a spotlight on an organization that has been tirelessly championing the cause of heart health: the American Heart Association (AHA), not just during Heart Health Month, but every month.

For decades, the American Heart Association has been at the forefront of raising awareness about cardiovascular health, empowering individuals to lead heart-healthy lifestyles, and advocating for policies that support heart disease prevention and treatment. Their efforts have been monumental in reducing the impact of heart disease, the leading cause of death globally.

Life is Why

One of the most inspiring campaigns launched by the American Heart Association is the “Life Is Why” initiative. At its core, this campaign emphasizes that behind every heart health journey, there is a deeply personal “why” driving individuals to prioritize their heart health. Whether it’s to spend more quality time with loved ones, pursue passions and dreams, or simply enjoy life to the fullest, the “Life Is Why” campaign reminds us all that our hearts are at the center of everything we hold dear.

My “why” is my dad. The center of everything I held dear and 29 years ago today I had to say goodbye.

The beauty of the “Life Is Why” campaign lies in its ability to connect on a deeply emotional level. By sharing stories of real people whose lives have been touched by heart disease, the campaign fosters empathy, understanding, and a sense of community. It reminds us that heart health is not just about statistics and medical advice but about the profound impact it has on our lives and the lives of those we love.

Until it hits you, it’s hard to understand the impact, but by sharing our stories we can try and give others a glimmer, and hopefully inspire someone, anyone, to make a change. Even if it’s just one person, it’s worth it.

AHA Advocacy

Through various initiatives such as educational programs, community events, fundraising efforts, and advocacy campaigns, the American Heart Association continues to drive positive change in the fight against heart disease. Their dedication to research and innovation has led to groundbreaking discoveries, advancements in treatment options, and improved outcomes for patients.

As we observe our own personal Heart Health Month, let’s take a moment to appreciate the invaluable work of the American Heart Association and the importance of prioritizing our heart health. Whether it’s adopting healthier eating habits, staying physically active, managing stress effectively, or quitting smoking, every small step we take towards a heart-healthy lifestyle can make a significant difference in our overall well-being.

Let’s also remember that behind every heartbeat is a story—a reason to cherish and protect our hearts. Whether it’s for our families, our passions, or simply for the joy of living, let’s embrace the “Life Is Why” mantra and make heart health a priority not just this month but every day of the year.

Together, let’s honor Heart Health Month by spreading awareness, supporting the American Heart Association’s life-saving mission, and taking proactive steps towards a healthier, happier heart.

Remember, life is why we fight, why we advocate, and why we strive for a world free of heart disease.

The Importance of Eating Right

Though there are several different ways to stay healthy, as we celebrate our own personal Heart Health Month, we would also like to highlight and celebrate one of our partners that is striving to make a difference. Garcia de la Cruz Olive Oil, a partner in the “Life is Why” campaign.
