OUR REVIEW

There is a class of movies that I am somewhat biased against. Let’s just get that out there right now. It’s the “did that really happen or was it all just a dream or just in his head” class of movies. Total Recall and The Wizard of Oz come to mind. At the end of the movie, you aren’t sure. Was it real or was it imagined? This is different from movies that take place in someone’s head, but at the end you KNOW it took place in their head (like Jacob’s Ladder). I don’t like ending a movie confused. My Father’s Dragon starts off with a strike against it. Is the dragon real? Did it all take place in Elmer’s head? Who are Elmer and Boris? The answers to two of these questions are left up to you to answer after you have watched the movie. The answer to the third question I will tell you now.

Elmer is a little boy going through a rough patch. When Elmer and his mom are forced to move from their small town to the big city to make ends meet things don’t really go their way. Elmer is forced to go on a classic Hero’s Journey to rescue a dragon to help his family. Does he succeed? Does he fail? Is it all in his head? You will have to watch to see, but I was happily surprised. My Father’s Dragon leaves some questions unanswered, but it didn’t leave me unhappy. If you are looking for an inspiring story for your family to watch, check out My Father’s Dragon on Netflix.

My Father’s Dragon debuts on Netflix on November 11, 2022.

Thanks to our friends at Netflix, we had the opportunity to interview the amazing JACOB TREMBLAY & NORA TWOMEY.

During the interview I was able to ask a few questions about the audience they movie is geared towards, Boris’ role in the movie, and perhaps the most important question of all … if Elmer’s journey was real.

See which question or two Ms. Twomey said was “interesting” and “good” ….
