Printers. The cause of and solution to all life’s problems. Ok, not really. Modern printers are a blessing and a curse. They’re a blessing because they bring the possibility of efficient relatively inexpensive printing to the modern masses. A curse because well, while they may be initially inexpensive, they get you on the consumables. Paper, toner, ink, drums. All these things cost money. And it’s somewhat amazing how costly they can get. That $100 printer sure looks like a good deal, until you see that the ink cartridge lasts for two days and costs $73 to replace.
I avoid that problem altogether by avoiding Ink Jet printers. I prefer laser printers. They cost a little more, but the toner cartridges last way longer. In the end they end up saving you money. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a cost. And it also doesn’t mean I like paying $100 for a new replacement toner cartridge. I may be willing to pay a little more for quality, but that doesn’t mean I want to keep forking over my hard earned money for no good reason. Especially when there is a low cost alternative.
And no, I’m not talking about refilling. The hubby tried that a couple times. Can you spell “mess”? I can. It’s spelled “WTF? There’s black powder all over my living room carpet. Are you out of you out of your mind?” Along with a few other choice words.
So since I don’t want to buy new toner and I’m not letting the hubby anywhere near a refill kit, what’s the happy medium?
