I’m not the most skilled person with a knife. If somehow in some imaginary fantasy world I could somehow make it onto Chopped, I would be the chef that made the perfect meal from the weird ingredients and then sliced their hand open and bled all over everything, thus ensuring that the judges never tasted my food and chopped me in the first round.
Just kidding. I would be the chef that turned the weird ingredients into a horrid, burned, inedible mess and then sliced their hand open and bled all over everything, thus ensuring that the judges never tasted my food and chopped me in the first round.
The hubby is a little better with a knife. He actually hones the blades and then chops and slices and peels and all that stuff and knows which knife is the correct knife to use for those situations. Did you ever see Sleepless in Seattle? Hah, of course you have. The hubby can do the apple peel thing with a paring knife (I had to ask him which knife he was using).
Me? I need a gadget. And that gadget is the Priority Chef Dual Julienne and Vegetable Peeler. For once I can do things the hubby can’t (SCORE!!). It has two blades, one that you can use for peeling vegetables and also for creating very thinly sliced vegetables (careful though, it is super sharp). The other blade is a “zoodle” maker. What is a zoodle? That was a new one for the hubby too. As soon as I showed him zucchini noodles he loved it. Use one side to peel a carrot or zucchini or potato, flip it around and you can run the zoodle blade over the same thing and create noodle like strands of the vegetable. Cook them up and serve them to the kids. Who has a kid that doesn’t like noodles? It’s the ultimate in food disguises. I love the smell of deceiving my child in the evening, it smells like victory. ;)
