Doctor Strange Movie Review

I suppose you could call me a fan-girl.  Each movie we see draws me in more to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m not in the same league as the hubby mind you. Let’s put it this way, when I first found out I was going to go to LA for the Doctor Strange press trip, I had to ask the hubby if he could better explain Doctor Strange. I had gleaned a little knowledge from the preview trailers but still … not enough to call me knowledgeable. As a result, I had to endure a half hour of him telling me. I am always telling him he needs to talk more, but I finally had to tell him to stop. I knew enough to know I was intrigued. Doctor Strange is not your ordinary Marvel Super Hero. And the movie bears this out.

One of Marvel’s great strengths (as I learned by the hubby’s dissertation) is that all of their super heroes are innately flawed. In other words, they are normal people, like you and me, who have greatness thrust upon them in some way and we get to see how they react. Some of them become selfish and lose a loved one due to that selfishness; some of them become giant green hulking brutes and some of them turn aside from their arrogant, self-centered attitude and learn to embrace a selfless attitude. And that is Doctor Strange, a movie unlike any in the Marvel Universe.

So, how to describe Doctor Strange without giving it all away…that’s a hard one to answer. First of all, let me be very clear that I really loved the movie. Having seen it twice now in 3D and in IMAX 3D I can say you will be blown away. And tomorrow I’m going to experience it in a Dolby theater. I’m still excited.

Doctor Strange is not a nice person. In every sense of the word he is the arrogant, egotistical, jerk that nobody likes. He is also a brilliant neurosurgeon. But after an accident leaves his hands useless he becomes…an even bigger jerk. Like a wounded animal lashing out. In his desperation he travels to Nepal after learning of someone else that was miraculously healed and once there, his mind is opened to the possibilities of the universe and his own personal hero’s journey begins. So if you are looking for a slightly different spin on the Marvel Universe, full of magic and wonder and a truly amazing visual puzzle. Be sure to check out Doctor Strange, in theaters today.

Never seen this, but it looks good. I like the guy who plays him. He plays Sherlock.
