Disney’s Alice Through The Looking Glass ~ IN THEATERS NOW!
“I used to think time was a thief. But you give before you take. Time is a gift. Every minute. Every second.” – Alice
Even in the craziest, most absurd movies, there is sometimes a bit of wisdom. And so it was with Alice Through the Looking Glass. In this installment, Alice returns to Wonderland to rescue the Mad Hatter who thinks that his family is still alive. This belief is not driving the Mad Hatter mad, but slowly driving him to despair. With prodding from the White Queen Alice goes to confront Time himself, hoping to travel back in time and keep the jabberwocky from killing the Mad Hatter’s family. Since Alice has no potential past self to run into (and thereby destroy time) she is the only one that can safely do so. Time warns her that she cannot change the past, but she may learn from it. With that warning, Time refuses to help her. But Alice being Alice, decides the steal the Chronosphere (the key to time) and travels back in time, with Time in hot pursuit to keep her from messing up time. I’m going to stop telling you about the movie there so I don’t spoil it.
I have to admit that the movie isn’t as good as the first. There were funny moments throughout. However I do think that Sacha Baron Cohen really shines as Time. I’m normally not a fan, but he is insightful and very funny. There are lessons to be learned, but in a subtle, unobtrusive way, about the choices we make and learning to live with those choices. And it also managed to hold my daughter’s attention, which is hard to do.
