I’m a gamer. Or I should say I was a gamer. In a different life when I had free time (you know…before kids). Doom, Quake, Arena, Bioshock, Halo, Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, World of Warcraft. I played them all. I was terrible at them. But I loved them. Today I love something else. My family. So it’s a little hard for me to find the time (or motivation) to sit down and play a first person shooter or mmorpg for hours at a stretch.
So my gaming now has to come in more bite-size family friendly chunks. You know, something that doesn’t involve walking around for hours on end, walking into stop signs or into traffic or over a grave staring at a map on my phone looking for some stupid avatar. Like I said, small bite-sized chunks in between helping someone learn to read or do addition for the first time.

One of my favorites types of games is the infinite runner, however, they all seem to have issues about them I don’t really like. Some are just too confusing. I’m catching coins to buy stupid upgrades that don’t help me. Some are just too hard. I mean, seriously, if the monster always catches me thirty seconds in, where is the fun in that?

Fortunately I have a new runner game that actually makes sense: Talking Tom Gold Run. The premise is simple. A thief broke into Tom’s house and stole his gold. You have to catch him to get it back. Seems simple enough right? Well it is, but like all infinite runner’s eventually you mess up and swipe left instead of right or jump when you meant to slide. You can use the gold you collect to help Tom upgrade his house, which helps you to unlock different runners. I actually like this aspect since it reminds me of the building phase of some classic games like Civilization or Warcraft. So go check out Talking Tome Gold Run. Free to download in all the mobile app stores.
