Keeping children safe on the internet is so important in this day and age. More and more children are using the internet, and that means more predators and bullies are using the internet to target them. There are so many ways your child could become a victim if they aren’t careful. They could be groomed, bullied, or even come across confusing information, such as pro anorexia sites. Here’s how you can make sure your kids are staying safe on the internet:
Talk to Them About Internet Safety
The moment your child starts to use a computer is the moment you should talk to them about internet safety. Be honest with them and explain why they need to be careful, and why they shouldn’t trust anybody on the internet. Make sure they know that people aren’t always who they say they are, and that they should never give out personal information about themselves.
Monitor Their Use
You can monitor their use in a few ways. You could put the family computer where you can clearly see what is going on, for example. You could make sure you’re always present while they use the computer. You could even check their internet history and block certain sites that you don’t want them to see. Some people consider monitoring their use like this spying, but if you think that’s what it takes to keep them safe then it’s up to you.

Give Them Safe Sites to Use
Depending on what your child would like to do with the internet, give them some safe sites to use. If they want games, there are games to race online free at arcadelots. Make sure you also inform your child how they can tell if a site is safe or not.
Become Their Friend on Social Media
If your child insists on having social media, make one of the conditions that they become your friend on it too. This way, you can see who they’re friends with and what they’re posting. You might not want to go as far as monitoring their messages, but again, this is your call. Make sure they know that if they wouldn’t be comfortable with you seeing a post, they shouldn’t be posting it in the first place.
Make Sure They Know What Is Appropriate for Them to Post
Your kids should be fully aware of what is appropriate and what isn’t. They need to know that everything they put online can still come back to haunt them, even if it’s been deleted. Consider everything posted on the internet permanent. Make sure they know that it’s not OK to bully anybody or say nasty things, even if they don’t know them or they are a celebrity. They are still real people who can be affected by hurtful comments.
Pay Attention to Their Behavior
If their behavior changes, something could be going on. Monitor their computer use more closely and make sure they know they can speak to you.
