So let’s start with the simplest example possible. Have you ever tried to sign a document, on your computer? I don’t mean those services where you type your name and it turns it into a pretty, neat written signature. I mean it literally says, “write your signature with your mouse”. Pain in the you-know-what. It comes out looking nothing like your actual signature. It may not even come out looking like a person wrote it. Now let’s move on to something a little more complicated, like actual drawing. Have you ever colored or drawn? With crayons or colored pencils or a pen or paintbrush? Think about how you hold them. Is that how you draw with a computer? No. You have to hold the mouse in a completely different way.
So, wouldn’t it be neat if you had a way to mimic that? Without having to spend a couple grand for one of those cool, but very expensive, tablet/computers I have seen on TV that show all this cool digital art creation with a pen device. Very hip, but those aren’t cheap.
I have news for you. There is. And I got to try one out and it is engrossing. I started playing around with it and didn’t want to stop. As I sit here, my daughter is busy making new digital creations and loving the device. What is it?
The Wacom Intuos Creative Pen Tablet. Have I used the word cool a lot so far? This thing is seriously cool. The set-up process is super simple. Plug it in and download some drivers and boom. Plus, you get 3 free creative software packages, one for drawing, one for digital photo editing and one for creating comics and manga. So, what exactly is it and how do you use it? Have you ever used a pen or a pencil? Then you know how to use it. You connect the tablet to your computer, pick up the stylus (fancy name for the pen) and start drawing. Like a real pen or marker, the harder you push down the thicker or darker the line. It’s so intuitive that you just use it, no real learning involved, other than the software. But even then, well, my 8-year-old is using the software after about 2 minutes of fiddling around with it.
So, if you have any sort of creative drawing or photo editing needs or desires, you need to run on over to Best Buy and pick up a Wacom Intuos Creative Pen Tablet. It will make drawing and creating so much more pleasant and easy and fun. And that’s the true mark of a great design.
