Under the Barnyard Light Review

under the barnyard light

Let’s settle one fact right away. I didn’t grow up on a farm. But I did grow up right down the road from one. It was the home of one of my childhood friends. I wasn’t up before dawn every day. Just on the days my friend would have sleepovers. I got to feed cows and chickens, and even once in a while helped clean out a stall or two. I even got to see a calf being born (terrifying and awesome all at once for a 12-year-old). As I grew older, I started helping other neighbors on my road that owned horses. So, while I didn’t grow up on a farm, I have some familiarity with the setting of Carla Osborne’s Under the Barnyard Light. I don’t know that I will ever be able to give my kids that full experience, but I would like to at least give them the small glimpse I got.

Under the Barnyard Light is charming little snippet of Carla’s life growing up on a farm and taking care of some of the farm animals. If you pick up a copy, I’m sure you will love it too. But even if you don’t have the chance to live on a farm, you can still take a look at Under the Barnyard Light on Carla’s YouTube channel Gonas Reading Ranch. Named after her childhood nickname, she reads several stories like The Ugly Duckling and Under the Barnyard Light. Keep coming back as she adds more tales to share with your own kids.

ABOUT CARLA CRANE OSBORNE

Carla Crane Osborne is the author of Under the Barnyard Light, a delightful children’s book about family farm life. Her book is a true story of her life growing up on the family farm. Carla wrote Under the Barnyard Light to bring to life a snapshot of the past so that children today can experience a sliver of the magic she knew growing up on a farm with all of its wonders.  The warmth from the barnyard light is a representation of the love and security that she felt.

Carla is continuing the saga of Under the Barnyard Light with a series entitled Go Gona Go. The next book Pony Express is scheduled to be released in April with Alex the Lamb close on its heels.
