The Top Ten Most Popular Family Activities for SummerSummer’s great weather and warm climate make it the perfect time of year for family activities for. It’s important to take advantage of the sunny months of the year. Are you ready for some fun? Then turn off the television, get outside, bring the kids, and get ready for the top ten most popular family activities for summer.

Visit the park.

No matter where you live, it’s probable that there is at least one park nearby. Even major cities like New York and Philadelphia contain large parks. A park is a great place to relax, work on your tan, or play fetch with your dog.

Go the beach.

It’s not hard to understand why beaches are a popular summer spot. Whether you enjoy building sand castles, playing volleyball, swimming, snorkeling, or surfing, the beach is a great place to hang out.

Plant a garden.

This is a fun activity that doesn’t even require you to leave home. If you are interested in horticulture, gardening is a fascinating activity. You and your kids can have fun planting and nurturing a garden in your backyard.

Wash your car.

Instead of wasting money at an expensive car wash place, just do it yourself for free in your own driveway. With the whole family working, it won’t take long, and you might be surprised how fun it can be.

Create homemade ice cream treats.

The kids are sure to love this one! Buy some ingredients from the grocery store and make some delicious dishes.

Run relay races.

This is a great way to get some exercise outdoors. Get creative and make up your own relays to try.

Relax in a hot tub.

A jacuzzi can be a great place to spend some time. Find your spa so that you and your family can kick back and relax.

Go on a bike ride.

Few activities are as healthy and beneficial as a long bike ride.

Go to a drive-in movie theater.

There are still a few drive-ins scattered throughout the nation. A drive-in movie can be a nostalgic experience for adults and a fun new activity for kids.

Create a lemonade stand.

People love to drink lemonade in the summer. This is a great way to teach kids about making money and running a business.

These are just some of the smorgasbord of great activities that the summer season offers us. There is no better time of year to have fun outside.

Another reocmmendation: go to a farm and see some animals, ideally ones where your food comes from. So many cities even have zoos and urban farms and it is so important for kids to relate to nature and see where all the bounty comes from!

I wish we had drive in movies around here. I used to love going on the weekend with a group of friends and pigging out on egg rolls and pizza. I like that painting. Did you paint it?

Living in NJ you go to the "shore" not the beach! Having said that, my plan this year is to get the kids together and to spend the day at the shore and to go on the boardwalk. Not sure how good it will be since the NJ shoreline sustained a LOT of damage during Hurricane Sandy, but my hope is that we can go and have some fun and stimulate the shore area economy.
