First, a huge THANK YOU to Nickelodeon for sending our family an advanced copy of The Smurfs: Season 1, Volume 1 for review!

Kids these days will never understand the excitement of waking up early on Saturday morning, grabbing a HUGE bowl of cereal, and hanging out in your PJs while watching Saturday morning cartoons. They don’t understand a world without TiVo or a DVR and I don’t know about you but mom and dad never let us use the VCR to record cartoons.

After a busy week and before a weekend of chores before fun in the sun, we were granted a grace period of pure bliss. Sugar, PJs, and CARTOONS! Have you seen cartoons these days? They’ve got nothing on the 1980s and 1990s!  And if you were anything like me, The Smurfs easily made it into your top 5 of favorites.

For me, The Smurfs were #2 on the list right behind She-Ra! Come on, GIRL POWER wins hands down. But The Smurfs, they were amazing. I would have given anything to be able to live in Smurf Village, to be friends with Smurfette, to take on the evil Gargamel, and be surrounded by friends. Everything was so SMURF-tastic!

For all of these reasons and more, I was so excited to hear that Nickelodeon was reintroducing a family favorite. I don’t know if you’ve heard but Nickelodeon’s The Smurfs Season 1, Volume 1 just dropped on DVD.

The world is different, a lot different from when I was a kid. Do you ever wish we could go back to the 80s or 90s and relive the glory days? I can’t even begin to describe what it felt like sitting with my kids and watching them experience The Smurfs for the first time, while I took in all the nostalgia of yesteryear with a new look. I love the positive messages behind each story, the friendships, the new feel of Smurfette, and new friends!

Pick up a copy of Nickelodeon’s The Smurfs: Season 1, Volume 1 and relive a bit of your childhood. Don’t forget the cereal!
