So there’s this semi-popular singer roaming around the country today. She’s young and pretty and talented and super-successful. God I hate her. But the fact is she can sing. You may have heard of her. She has a somewhat popular song out right now. You may have heard it. It’s called “Shake It Off.” I don’t remember the particular artist’s name right now, but it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that the song is super popular. Why does that matter? Because every time a song becomes super popular then there are inevitably a variety of spoof and parody video and mashups. And now, thanks to YouTube, some creative sound person and “Shake It Off,” there is now a video I can’t get out of my head.
Everyone has seen them, those 80’s workout videos. I remember seeing more than a few in my younger days. They always made me cringe. Well now there is one that is inextricably linked in my head every time I hear “Shake It Off”. It’s the 1988 National Aerobic Championship opening dance number, set to “Shake It Off.” It’s almost uncanny how well this matches up.
Now what does this have to do with anything? It makes me think of the importance of sweatbands for your head and wrist. I know it’s going to sound corny, but if you are ever working out or just working, in the garden perhaps, and you start feeling sweat drip into your eyes, you know what I’m talking about. It can burn, not to mention making it hard to see. And now thanks to some sweet sweatbands I received from Suddora, that song is no longer permanently linked in my head to Aerobics.
