My skin has always been a touchy subject. All was fine until I hit puberty and then all hell broke loose. On top of acne I started suffering from red patches/blotches, combination skin that was dry sometimes and extremely oily at other times, and we won’t even discuss my uneven skin tone. Needless to say, makeup became this girl’s best friend early on in the teen years BUT did I mention I also have extremely sensitive skin? Yeah, cheap makeup, the kind that most teenagers purchase, and sensitive skin really don’t mix. Forget the additional breakouts and blotches; the incessant itching was well … incessant.

As a thirty-something I can’t even recall the number of skincare products that I have purchased over the years to remedy my problems or at the very least decrease or hide them. Creams, cleansers, special soaps and wash clothes, scrubby pads, etc … you name it and I have tried it. I have tried drinking an abundance of water over the years as well, which is not nearly as expensive as special treatments; however, none of these items have remedied my problems.

I have thought about seeking treatment or advice from a dermatologist but let’s be honest, that can get extremely expensive and I am yet to find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Or, maybe I am just making excuses, either way; I am yet to go see a dermatologist. Recently, The Skin Regime presented me with the opportunity to review Dana Ramos’ book, The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin and an at-home 1-4-All Peel to try. At first I was extremely skeptical because nothing has ever worked for me. Then, I became somewhat nervous since I have such sensitive skin. Finally, I resigned myself to the idea that I would read the book, try the product, and check it up to yet another fail. BUT that isn’t exactly what happened.

First, let’s talk about the BOOK. Dana Ramos is a cool cat. Often, books about skincare are filled with a great deal of technical speak or gobbly goop; that is a technical term, but that isn’t the case with Dana’s book. As I read, I felt as though I was having a one on one conversation with a friend. Don’t get me wrong, the book covers scientific and medical topics; however, the terminology didn’t put me to sleep and I did not have to pick up a Master’s degree prior to reading. In other words, this is a 147 page easy read with instructions on how to create a personalized regime based on products and advice most dermatologists recommend for their patients. I love that Dana debunks cosmetic companies for the money whores that they are and explains why most of the products on the market are total and complete junk. This is something that I have thought for many, many years but clearly never had the science to back-up my thought processes.

I also love the flow/breakdown of the book. Dana introduces the Skin Regime and discusses our skin, why our skin is the way that it is, who (everyone) should use the regime, and then discusses the actual process and products. Without going into specifics, since you would have no need to read the book then, she teaches us how to achieve fresh, new, and healthy skin in just six to eight weeks. Please note, the book is a must read and something that you will not regret!

Second, the PEEL! Before we even get started … please, please, please, PLEASE read the book before trying the peel. The Skin Regime 1-4-All Peel aims to minimize fine lines, heal mild acne, fade brown spots and skin discoloration, reduce large pores, reverse sun damage, and create even skin tone and texture while creating glowing, radiant skin.

The Peel contains a number of ingredients but there are two that I most definitely want to point out; Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid. Yes, I just said ACID. As I mentioned before, it is imperative that you read the book, the entire book, and instructions on how to use the 1-4-All Peel before using it because you will be working with acid. Dana goes through all of the instructions and provides warnings and precautions that should be taken into consideration prior to use. For example, if you have a skin infection, cut/broken, skin, or you are sunburn then you should not use this product. Perhaps more importantly, if you are nursing or pregnant then this is not the product for you. Again, please read, read, READ before moving forward with a peel. The first 30 pages of The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin can be found free at TheSkinRegime.com.

Now, back to the peel itself! The 1-4-All Peel is unique because you are able to layer it. One should apply one (1) layer for a mild peel or up to four (4) layers for a very strong peel; hence the name. ;) I recommend that you start off by simply trying one layer, just to get a feel for things, but that is just me. Since I read the directions, I know that this product is not recommended for someone with extremely sensitive skin but I wanted to try it so I did “test” one area of my face. There was some burning, which I fully anticipated, and reddening after the application but I was able to notice a difference in the section that I “tested” almost immediately. It was definitely softer. I had my sister try a full peel and she has really grown to enjoy it; I think she may be slightly addicted. She said her face tingled and burned a little but it was not painful. After the first peel she noticed a difference under her eye area and confirmed that her skin was noticeably softer. After a few applications her fine lines started to fade as well. Yeah, she is totally hooked.

Although the book focuses on skincare, Dana also branches out and discusses other problem areas of the body and how to remedy such problems. She delves into makeup, medical procedures, and the overall body. For me, I really enjoyed the pages that focus on teeth and my feet. First, I used to smoke. Yes, I know it is extremely unhealthy and I quit, cold turkey, about a year ago. I also drink coffee on a daily basis, throughout the day, and my teeth have suffered as a result. Normally when I smile it isn’t a full on smile because I have an extreme fear of yellowing. I am thankful for tips that will work to diminish this flaw and increase the opportunity for a full on smile. The feet, do we even need to discuss this? UGH! I have majorly rough feet, as in, I could get a pedicure every single day and that still would not be enough. I also have major crackage (is that even a word) in my heels. I have been using The Hand and Foot Skin Regime and so far I am extremely pleased with the outcome.

BUT … WHAT IS IT GOING TO COST?

I am sure this all sounds well and good but you are wondering about the price tag associated with this range of success. Well, Dana does make mention of some prescription creams; depending on what you are combating. However, the majority of the products that are discussed in the book can be picked up during a trip to your local drug store. In other words, success does not have to cost an arm and a leg. The end of her book contains a shopping list to increase your chances of success and reduces the need for a pen, highlighter, or notebook while reading.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I believe this is a great read for teens and adults alike. If you suffer from pimples, wrinkles, or other targeted problems then this book is most certainly worth a read. You can purchase The Skin Regime: Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin on Amazon or through The Skin Regime website. On the website, in addition to the book, you will find great tips, before and after pictures, and other great products such as serums, lotions, and oils. A Sample 1-4-All Peel can be picked up for just $14.95.

So what are you waiting for? Pick up a copy of this book and discover your beautiful skin.

Did I mention The Skin Regime donates at least 5% of all proceeds to charity organizations?
