Sing Movie Review

by Erik

I won’t lie. If there was a movie that my daughter (umm, and me) have been looking forward to seeing it is Sing. Since the moment we saw the very first trailer, I knew we were going to see it. Watching her face light up every time the trailer came on or a TV commercial aired and she would start dancing around the room. I just kind of knew.

WE. WERE. GOING. TO. SING.

And we did. And she did.

Sing is really the story of Buster Moon, a showman Koala (maybe that should be “showkoala”?) with dreams of bringing his fading theater back from the brink of foreclosure by hosting a singing competition. From severe stage fright to an uncooperative parent, each of the contestants must face their own difficulties and obstacles they have to overcome. As the rehearsals progress, Buster must work to stay one step ahead of the contestants to get all the prize money (and the theater) ready for the big night. When things don’t work out quite as expected, everyone must pull together to bring the show off.

Sing features a great ensemble cast, but the real star is the music. From the opening scene to the closing credits, Sing is an almost constant stream of absolutely great music. From the beginning to the end I found myself humming along to tunes I knew. I was tapping my feet to songs I loved. In a couple places,I was ready to jump up and dance with my daughter. Sing was a fun filled joyful movie (except for a couple sad moments, but they don’t last long) full of hope and optimism, perfect for the Christmas season. I can’t wait for it to officially open. We’ll be going back.

I find myself wishing my son was little again when a movie like Sing comes around!
