Aerophobia is a common condition, so if it affects you, you are not alone! It is also a very rational fear in my opinion. After all, we were not born with wings, and there is nothing in our genes to prepare us for the experience. Had our ancestors been flying for the last few hundred thousand years things might be different. No matter how terrified our anxiety makes us feel, the statistics show that air travel is still one of the safest forms of transport that there is.

You may wish to travel to an exotic location for the holiday of a lifetime. Maybe it is a retirement gift to yourself, or an important anniversary that you must mark in style. Whatever the reason, we need to get you on that jet!

Here are the secrets to overcoming your fear of flying.

Familiarity

Your anxiety levels increase as you approach the airport. An excellent way to cope with difficult situations is to make yourself familiar with them. If you are lucky, (or unlucky) enough to live close to the airport, start making weekly visits to it. Hang around for a couple of hours at a time and get used to the crowds. Visit the observation deck so you can watch the planes as they take off and land. You could also visit an aircraft museum. There are several up and down the country where you can walk into an airliner and take a seat. They are primitive compared to the machines today, so if you feel comfortable in those, how bad can it be in a modern plane?

Join A Group

As I mentioned earlier; you are not alone. There are many groups who get together and discuss their problem. They use relaxation techniques and behavioral therapy to change the way you look at a situation. The group will often make a block booking and take their first flight together. Mutual support when the doors close and the plane begins to roll will help you through that difficult time.

Medicine

Sometimes you cannot control your anxiety, or you will have a relapse before the vacation. Explain your fears to the doctor; they have heard it all before. They will prescribe the appropriate medicine to help you through the experience.

Knowledge Is Power

Learn the facts about flying so you can see them in action during the flight. Most people who book  Sriwijaya air tickets arrive at their destination without a thought of the mechanics involved. Learn how a wing works and why it has flaps on the trailing edges. Understand why the engines rev on landing when you would expect them to go quiet. If you lift the mystery, you might not find it so scary.

Most people overcome their fear of flying eventually, and there is no reason why you can’t too. Like most things in life; if you fail the first time you must jump straight back on that horse. The anxiety may never leave you completely but the more you fly, the weaker the hold it will have on you. Use your vacation of a lifetime as a focus for your efforts; it will help. Give yourself a big pat on the back when you get home too; you deserve it.

I have a huge fear of flying. On my last plane trip, I was in tears. I felt like a fool.

I think the only way I’d ever get on another plane is if I had the chance to go to Hawaii. I think I could tolerate the flight.
