Let’s Kick Some Asteroid! Ratchet and Clank Movie in Review #RatchetAndClank

by Maria Briggs

I don’t know about you, but I always root for the underdog. There is just something about knowing that the person – or Lombax – least expected will be the hero of the story. That the underdog will save the day. I love watching the friendships being born and the bonds formed. This way of storytelling has always compelled me to stay alert and pay attention. When a movie has more to offer than just beating the bad guy, it’s the kind of movie you want to take your kids to. Ratchet and Clank did this for me.

Ratchet and Clank

This action-packed, family-friendly movie is sure to win over everyone in the family! It has all the components of a family movie, the underdogs, the overzealous mad scientist, the “Old” egocentric hero who learns a lesson from the underdog, robots, space, and most importantly no blood!

The overall theme of Ratchet and Clank is, “You don’t have to do big things to be a hero, you just have to do the right things.” While the movie is based on the beloved game, this origins story is completely new, especially in the gaming world. My family has been a long time fan of Ratchet and Clank and the movie made so much sense to me when it concerns the game, and how well both Ratchet and Clank work together.

Ratchet and Clank - Galactic Rangers

As the mission takes wild and woolly turns, Ratchet and Clank will learn about heroism, friendship, and the importance of discovering one’s own identity. They will surprise everyone – even themselves – by proving  they are capable, and will become lifelong friends ready to go wherever adventure takes them.

Ratchet and Clank - Ratchet

The moment Ratchet saves Clank from a fiery crash and offers to repair him, you know right away that theirs is a friendship that is meant to last a lifetime. During our interview with James Arnold Taylor, he said, “Ratchet learns to be himself and accept who he is.” That is the true essence of this film. It is finding who you are and accepting it. It’s about listening to yourself and opening your heart to others.

Ratchet and Clank - Clank

Clank is classified as a “defect” because he was so much smaller than the other robots, and he also thinks for himself. He knew he had to get away from the bad guys – Chairman Drek – and needed to warn the planet of its impending destruction!

Ratchet and Clank - Cora
Cora is your typical “shoot now, ask questions later” type of girl. She’s a real tough cookie who wants to get the job done, no matter what. Working with Ratchet and Clank she learns that she should, in fact, ask questions.

Ratchet and Clank - Qwark
Captain Qwark is not exactly a has-been, but he does need to learn that not every hero can be as big as him. All heroes come in different shapes and sizes. Once he sees Ratchet kicking some major asteroids he is awed and changes his views. He grows into a better hero because of Ratchet and Clank.

There are bad guys too and they get their just desserts! Wanna meet them?

Ratchet and Clank - Drek
Drek has a mission and that mission is to destroy and reshape the entire Galaxy into his own vision. He is the epitome of evil, without warning he destroys an entire planet! Don’t fret though, this is where our Galactic Rangers come in!

Ratchet and Clank - Nefarious and Drek

Nefarious and his sidekick Lawrence (not pictured) are in cahoots with Drek but Nefarious has a plan of his own! Now the Galactic Rangers have to foil their plans and save the galaxy at the same time! Can they do it?

Will the Galactic Rangers embrace Ratchet and Clank into their fold for the sake of the Galaxy? Head over to theaters TOMORROW to find out! Make sure to bring the kids, and pick up the game too!
