It is Back to School season! We are all readjusting to the daily grinding and working on creating new routines and habits for the beginning of a new school year. That all sounds busy and exciting, which it is, but this is also the perfect time of the year for our bodies to become rundown and fatigued. Not to mention, I do not know about your little one(s) but as soon as my daughter returns to the classroom she is returning home with the latest and greatest cold and this rundown, fatigued state could make it easier for mommy and daddy to get sick too. Who wants to start a new school year sick? Luckily, there are ways for us to work on building up our systems and to avoid potential illness … vitamins!

Did you know that more than one-third of Americans take multivitamins and about one in four young children take a vitamin daily? While that is great, this is also a number that I believe we need to work on increasing. Unfortunately, our everyday diets often do not account for our daily requirements when it comes to vitamins and minerals. If we want to be the best us that we are able to be, then vitamins are an absolute must!

As a gastric bypass patient I am well versed in vitamins and have taken a number of supplements over the years. The downside with some of these products is that they have resulted in gastrointestinal discomfort, bad breath, and at times they actually made me feel worse than before I began taking them. Any gastric bypass patient will tell you that when it comes to vitamins, one you have the surgery you become a “lifer,” or at least one should. What this means is that we have to take vitamins every day for the rest of our lives. In an attempt to find a multivitamin that covers all of the bases, to suit my needs, I have been introduced to a number of brands. I think I finally found a winner!

Recently I was introduced to Puritan’s Pride products and the suggested supplements to get us, meaning the parents, ready for Back to School. I know our little one(s) are in the classroom learning but we have to be the healthiest that we are able to be to support them in their efforts. So, who is Puritan’s Pride and what sets them aside from other brands?

Meet Puritan’s Pride

The company has remained loyal to their roots, which has proven to be a fantastic business plan as they continue to serve millions of loyal customers. With a focus on high quality standards and good manufacturing practices in food quality standards, Puritan’s Pride will continue to grow and attract new loyal customers for years to come.

Puritan’s Pride Women’s One Daily Multivitamins

If you are looking for a once-daily, multivitamin that is tailor-made for women then look no further. This vitamin is crafted from a valuable array of vitamins and minerals and includes 1000 IU of Vitamin D to support bone and immune system health. As a gastric bypass patient I cannot describe in words how important this boost in Vitamin D is. I went through a short stint after having my surgery where I did not take vitamins because they were all making me so sick to my stomach. Within a couple of weeks I began to notice that different parts of my body ached and hurt including my toes. Bloodwork confirmed my Vitamin D levels were extremely low and my dosage was doubled. The prominent ingredients are Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and Vitamin K. Since I started taking the One Daily Multivitamins my energy level has increased and fingers crossed, I will not be a victim of a nasty cold or virus a few weeks into school!

Puritan’s Pride Men’s One Daily Multivitamins

The Men’s One Daily Multivitamins are much like the women’s multivitamins; however, it is tailored for men. Along with an array of vitamins and minerals, the men’s multivitamins includes 700 IU for Vitamin D to support bone and immune system health as well as 100% of the Daily Value of Zine to aid with male reproductive health and energy metabolism. I am also thrilled that this multivitamin contains 200 mcg of Lycopene which aids in reducing a man’s chances of getting prostate cancer.

In my job outside of the home I speak with individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer on a daily basis. While I am not able to provide percentage of how many of my clients have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, what I am able to say is the number is high. I am definitely a fan of anything that is able to aid in the decrease of cancer. While ketchup contains Lycopene, please remember, it is not a large dosage.

On a more personal level, as my daughter is preparing to start Pre-K, my husband and I have been discussing having another baby. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, we have a difficult time conceiving. A multivitamin that contains a supplement that cheers for male reproductive health gets to thumbs up from not only me but also my husband.

Although both multivitamins are larger, by no means would I compare them to many of the one a day “horse pills” that are currently on the market. These vitamins do not have a foul odor and I did not find them overpowering in the taste department.

Puritan’s Pride Vitamin B-12 500 mcg

B-12 Ener-B provides essential B vitamin B-12 which supports energy metabolism in the body. This vitamin contributes to a healthy nervous system, is essential to the formation of blood cells, and works to maintain circulatory health.

Since I had my gastric bypass I have had a lot of problems regulating my Vitamin B-12 levels which is not a good thing. I have had to take prescription drug melt aways, get shots, and I even tried a nose mist. The right “concoction” is able to remove the need for such additional measures. Without proper levels of B-12, I walk around like a zombie as I suffer from a serious lack of energy. Now, add Back to School to that zombie-like state and you are talking a recipe for disaster.

As a gastric bypass patient, I have to be careful with my absorption of different vitamins and this one of them. Since I am further out from surgery, my nutritionist allowed me to take the vitamin but I had to check with her first. As with anything, if you have questions, be sure to follow-up with your trusted health professional. For me, one of the best things about this product is that I am able to swallow it. If you have taken B-12 in a melt away form then you know many of them taste horrible or they take forever to well, melt away. As a professional that spends a great deal of time on the phone, it is difficult to hold a vitamin under my tongue while it melts and talk to a client at the same time. I love my new B-12 Buddy!

Puritan’s Pride Omega-3 Fish Oil 1000mg

In an effort to support heart health, the Omega-3 Fish Oil contains 300mg of active Omega-3 and is comprised of EPA, DHA, and other fatty acids. The EPA and DHA fatty acids also provide the body with energy and are “good” fats that work to valance “bad fats” in our diet.

Back to School is a busy time often filled with homework, sports, and after school activities. While we all strive to put the healthiest meal possible on the table, sometimes activities get in the way which makes this difficult if not impossible. I have seen it with my niece and nephew, one has to be at volleyball practice at one school and the other has to be at soccer practice at another. For a single mom that works full-time outside the home that leaves about 20 minutes for dinner. Sometimes Subway is just easier but not 4 days a week. Omega-3 Fish Oil can help!

I did notice that when I first opened my bottle of Omega-3 Fish Oil it had a rather overwhelming scent. I also noticed that the first couple of pills left a bit of an aftertaste but this is not abnormal when it comes to fish oil. The aftertaste quickly goes away and your body will adjust.
