I was introduced to probiotics about a year ago when I was having some female issues. My gynecologist recommended that I add a daily probiotic to my vitamin regimen as I was suffering from frequent yeast infections and she hoped this would be a way to build a good offense instead of always being on the defense. I have been taking generic label probiotics since she suggested them and *knock on wood* I have only had one infection since.
The more that I have looked into probiotics, the more I have learned about the health benefits of taking them. Seriously, this is something that doctors or gynecologists should introduce to their female patients and sooner rather than later. I am yet to find a study that says women should not take probiotics; rather quite the contrary. What I have learned; however, like anything, is that all probiotics are not created equal. Make sure you look at the ingredients and what the product claims to do prior to purchase. Okay, enough of my PSA.
I was recently introduced to PureBiotics and immediately made the switch.
I already knew that probiotics are linked to decreased Yeast and Urinary Tract Infections but what I did not know is all of the other ways this one little pill can benefit women; especially me!
A few years ago I underwent a gastric bypass. Since then, I have lost a great deal of weight; however, I also became lactose intolerant. As someone who LOVES milk and cheese this is huge! I still continue to eat/drink dairy products but I get extremely sick after doing so. Since I have started taking PureBiotics I have noticed that while I still get sick from ingesting dairy, I don’t feel as deathly ill as I once did and the effects do not last as long.
Back to the weight loss, probiotics are said to play a role in eliminating abdominal fat and shrinking the waistline. This could be great for anyone who has lost a large amount of weight or women who were pregnant as well. Since I started taking PureBiotics I have not noticed a change to my waistline BUT I am willing to wait for the magic to begin since there are so many other benefits to this supplement.
For me, these benefits alone are enough to have me hooked and vested in continuing to take PureBiotics daily. BUT here are other reasons why they are great for any woman’s daily regimen. Probiotics have been shown to: reduce allergies, lower cholesterol, reduce diarrhea, reduce chronic bad breath, and reduce tooth decay. Mothers that take probiotics during pregnancy and while breast-feeding have found that it reduces colic and alleviates bloating, constipation, and gas in their babies; I’ll keep this in mind if we are lucky enough to have another baby.
So enough of the infomercial, let’s talk about the product! A daily dose of PureBiotics consists of one pill and the pills are small, round, and easy to swallow (I have included a picture). They do not result in abdominal discomfort; which is good since part of their job is to aid in such occurrences.
That being said, there are a few things that I want to be sure to mention. First, as soon as I opened the bottle I noticed a rather powerful smell. It wasn’t so overwhelming that I had to put the bottle down and walk away but it is there, it doesn’t go away, and I would not classify it as pleasant. Second, the tablets begin to dissolve as soon as they are in your mouth. I recommend that you have the pill in one hand and a glass of water in another so you can wash them down quickly. Third, there IS an aftertaste. It wasn’t powerful enough to make me shiver (if you’ve experienced this you understand) but it was noticeable and again, not something that I would classify as pleasant.
These few drawbacks aside, the benefits of this one little pill far outweigh the small drawbacks. I am comfortable in recommending this to anyone who is looking to achieve “gut health” and bring “balance” to other areas of their life.
