The holidays are coming and you know what that means? Burned turkey, gummy potatoes, cold green beans, charred rolls, runny deviled eggs, gravy the consistency of Jell-O, hard Jell-O and dried out stuffing. I have a lot of great memories of Thanksgiving dinners over the years and they all share those in common. I’m sure you are all the same. Wait…Huh? Your Thanksgiving dinners aren’t like that? You actually like eating Thanksgiving dinner? The terrible meals aren’t a prelude to a huge family argument? Well Christmas then…No? Those are good for you too?
Ok, apparently my family is doing something wrong because most of my holiday meals resemble that one episode of Friends or the movie A Christmas Story.
It would be kind of nice to have a decent meal for once. But it’s hard when you have a large family and you are expected to do all the cooking. Although since the rest of my family are such “good” cooks, it’s probably best that I do all the cooking. The hubby has told me stories of the double oven his family had when he was growing up (this was before microwave ovens mind you). That sounds nice, but it was apparently huge (like floor to ceiling huge). And olive green. That would be great but we have these handy things called microwaves these days. And thankfully they don’t make those olive green appliances anymore.
It’s kind of hard to describe how nice it would be to have a second oven without having to rebuild my entire kitchen. Or be able to boil water in less than 2 minutes with an induction cooktop. Imagine being able to cook the turkey properly and not have to let it get ice cold while cooking the stuffing or rolls. Or the time savings from not having to stagger all the homemade pies. Or the ready-to-bake pies from the freezer. I said I was a cook, not a baker. This year my dream might come true with Best Buy’s holiday prep event. I might even be persuaded to pass up Black Friday all together based on some of these deals. Haha, I just mentioned that to my hubs and he got totally excited. It’s a shame I was just kidding! One thing is for sure, an updated range would allow me to spend more time with my family. More time for enjoying a glass of wine, rehashing the latest family drama, and mapping our plans for Black Friday shopping. It’s time to head to Best Buy for some early holiday prepping!
