Today, I am so excited to take a step back and relive some of the fun we had in Los Angeles during event in November. While in sunny California we were invited to visit the set of Fox’s new hit comedy, “Grandfathered” as well as meet the cast; including the incredible John Stamos. Umm, yeah, I may have jumped around like a school girl screaming when I heard I was going to be in the same room with this guy! (“Have mercy…”)
The cast of Grandfathered includes: John Stamos as Jimmy Martino, Paget Brewster as Sara, Josh Peck as Gerald, Christina Milian as Vanessa, Kelly Jenrette as Annelise, and Ravi Patel as Ravi.
The first thing that I noticed when we stepped onset was there was a vibe in the air; a chemistry. The cast was there, there was laughter and conversation, and I felt warm and welcome as I entered and started looking around. Out of the corner of my eye I stole a look of John Stamos setting up behind the bar, cracking jokes, and offering to make us drinks. Unfortunately all of the bottles were fake but he had some great moves and if he decides on a new career path, bartending may be the way to go. ;)

After sharing a few laughs and ogling John a bit (at least that is what I was doing), we broke into groups, and settled into a booth at Jimmy’s to get better acquainted with the cast. I had a complete fangirl moment when John Stamos and Paget Brewster sat down with us and started chatting away as though we were all old friends. They spoke about their love for the show and how the characters are evolving as time goes on. John talked about loving family and family comedy and his desire to be a part of a project that would introduce this dynamic and much more. Before visiting the set, what sold me on the idea of Grandfathered is the rolling theme of a romantic comedy, I appreciate the smart humor, and I am able to identify with the family, one that isn’t conventional.

After talking with John and Paget, I have a completely new respect. The show specifically set out to cast a female character that is strong, in her mid-forties, and single. To me, this isn’t just a character; this is the woman that I lived with when my mother became a widow in her early forties. The circumstances may be different but learning this sparked a connection and I knew I had to learn more. Add to that the witty exchange and fun that John and Paget had while talking with us and mingling with each other I was sold. The DVR is set to catch any episodes that we may miss but we tune in weekly!

Next up, we met with Kelly Jenrette and Ravi Patel who work at Jimmy’s (John Stamos) restaurant. They were a great comedic duo that bantered back and forth during the entire talk. We were able to confirm that there is a lot of fun on the set, they like to play jokes on each other, and Ravi even shared a few of his chef secrets with us. Seriously, have you watched the man cook during the show? It’s magical! Check it out during tonight’s episode and see if you pick up any new techniques. I can’t wait to see how their relationship with John evolves as the story grows and new family is added to the mix.

Then we had the chance to talk with Christina Milian and Josh Peck. During our discussion, I realized that they are the heart of the show. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love John, but this is where it all begins. Josh said, “John’s always been emphatic that we’ll always have the comedy, but what will set us apart is the heart.” I couldn’t agree more. The brilliant thing about this program is that it appeals to a varied variety of ages, it is relatable to families, and it has a way of drawing both together.
In the show, Christina and Josh are new parents and they are both working on building a foundation, finding their own, and establishing relationships. To me, at least where I am in life that is what life is all about. What I find most relatable and humorous about where the show is right now is that these two young (twenty-somethings), are making their way, they are coming into their own, and there are becoming responsible adults while the wheels are falling off of the adults. I can’t wait to see what the creators cook up next.

After hearing that Jimmy hasn’t been to the doctor in over ten years, Sara and Gerald trick him into seeing their family doctor (Dr. Phil McGraw) for a routine physical, which results in an unsettling discovery. Meanwhile, Gerald and Vanessa stress over Edie’s upcoming surgery and Annelise and Ravi stumble upon Jimmy’s secret safe in the all-new “Perfect Physical Specimen” episode of GRANDFATHERED airing Tuesday, January 5 (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
