I have two dogs. Well puppies really. One was a Christmas present last year. One was a Christmas present this year. Now I love both my doggies, but I really hope I DON’T get another one next Christmas. My house just isn’t big enough for more than two dogs. Especially two puppies! Yes I know one of them is a year old, but as anyone who has a 7 year old child knows, that doesn’t mean they’re grown up. In case you didn’t get the reference, 1 year for a dog is 7 years for a people, so a one year old dog is like a 7 year people. So a 1 year old dog is still a puppy. Now that we have that out of the way let’s move on.

Two puppies, small house, 5 year old daughter. Frenetic energy is the name of the game at my casa. All those ingredients spell one thing. Scratches.

What?

Yes, scratches. Scratched dogs, scratched child, scratched floors, scratched furniture. Now the problem is that as many times as I punch the dogs when they scratch something, that something is still scratched (don’t worry PETA/ASPCA/Crazy nut job animal lovers that is what is known as a “joke”).

The only real remedy is to avoid the scratches to begin with. So the hubby trims their nails on a regular basis. But trimming them isn’t the final answer, because the nails are still scratchy/sharp, they’re just shorter. After they’re trimmed, they need to be filed, just like people.

When I was given the chance to review the Nail Shaper by Miracle Care I thought I had a real winner.

I was wrong. The nail shaper is shaped like a barrel (think Donkey Kong). One end is flat and the other end is concave so you can file and round off your dog’s nails after they are trimmed. The problem is that it doesn’t work that well. Now I suppose it’s possible I wasn’t using it right, but I’m a pretty smart person and it seemed straightforward, it just didn’t work that well. It says to insert the nail in the end of the barrel and twist, but that just doesn’t do all that much. Twist, twist, twist. Five minutes later one nail is done. Really? Yes really. Maybe I don’t have the patience to use this thing properly. Oh well, they can’t all be winners.

We do NOT recommend this product.

ABOUT MIRACLE CARE NAIL SHAPER

The innovative Nail Shaper™ by Miracle Care™ is specially contoured to fit all pet nails.  Gently twist away sharp ends and rough edges that can scratch people, furniture and floors.

No matter how sharp the tool, clipping hard, brittle nails can leave rough edges.  Motorized nail grinders are noisy and when used improperly can catch hair or even burn.  The Nail Shaper’s manual design allows pet owners to take control of the pressure and twisting action needed to take away rough edges silently and painlessly.

Designed for all breeds, simply insert the nail into the contoured barrel and twist to shape and smooth edges.  Use after clipping for just out of the grooming salon results.

This is interesting-- I know when I have done my pups nails it was both of us getting nervous. I was so afraid of hurting the pup and the pet paws made so much noise it made the pup nervous. So we go to the groomer for nails. I need to look further into this ===

How refreshing to read an honest review. Every product review always gets raves. I get suspicious of that. Especially when I myself have tried the same product and it falls short of perfection.

Thank you, we have one dog and 2 bunnies, and have some trouble clipping their nails..so though I have never heard of this product thank you for your suggestion not to get one..you may have saved us money as we are trying to find something to use instead of the manual way.
