I have always had a sensitive stomach but this only intensified after getting pregnant, having my daughter, and finally undergoing weight loss surgery. I’m not sure if you know much about weight loss surgery BUT they essentially go in and create a whole new stomach. There is a whole bunch of cutting, redirecting, sewing, yeah … it gets really complicated but you get the picture. That really isn’t our topic this evening so let’s move on, shall we?
In the past six months I have developed a number of intestinal issues that have left physicians scratching their heads and me not wanting to eat or drink anything. On the plus side, I have decided how I would like to redecorate the two bathrooms in my home! 😉 After a number of tests, changes to my diet, and more tests, it was suggested that I try a Probiotic; in addition to a few other supplements, before we move forward with additional testing.
Enter Microbiome Plus+ GI Probiotic.
The first thing that I noticed about the Microbiome Plus+ GI system is that it was developed by doctors. How many times do you go searching for someone, especially on the internet, and there are 500 choices? This can be especially scary when you are looking for supplements; really anything in a pill form! Knowing that this is a supplement that was developed by doctors and not a couple of bored teenagers sitting around in their basement (Yes that totally could happen!) put me at ease from day one. I also love that the Microbiome system is a Probiotic and Prebiotic. But ummm … what are Probiotics and Prebiotics?
Probiotics are organisms (e.g. bacteria or yeast) that are available in supplements and food and are believed to improve health. They help keep the intestines healthy and assist in digesting food. It is also believed that they help the immune system.
Prebiotics are plant fibers that nourish the good bacteria that are already in our large bowel or colon. These fibers promote the growth of good bacteria in our “gut.” In turn, this provides many digestive and health benefits.
There, explained it as clear as mud! To simplify things, Probiotics and Prebiotics aide in digestive and intestinal health, they boost the immune system, and assist in weight loss. Sounds great, right? So why aren’t you taking them? I wasn’t until about a month ago. I had no idea what they were, even though a couple of people tried to explain, I really did not want to put the effort into adding another pill to my regimen, and to be honest … I am just plain lazy when it comes to taking medications/supplements/vitamins, etc…
Had I known then, what I know now, I probably would still would not have taken them but, we can always help that a better informed us in the past would have made more intelligent decisions, right? Enough about me!
A little more about this advanced combination!
The Microbiome system has shown, in clinical trials, to help support normal inflammatory response in addition to supporting digestive health.
Health Improvement and Maintenance: Did you know that your gut is home to 80% of your immune system? This is where the good bacteria (probiotics) battle bad bacteria to prevent disease and relieve allergies, bloating, gas, and constipation. Probiotics replenish disease-fighting bacteria and help you maintain digestive functions and immune healthy by controlling candida and yeast overgrowth.
This was my number one reason for trying the Microbiome Plus+ GI Probiotic. After having continuous stomach problems for months, not wanting to eat, and not finding any answers as to what was causing the problems, I was willing to try just about anything. Has this system “solved” all of my problems? The answer is no. It would be a bit irrational to think that something that has been giving me problems for months would resolve itself in a matter of weeks. What I am able to say is that things have gotten considerably better. I no longer maneuver through life with a constant upset stomach or nausea. I don’t have to visit the restroom ten minutes after eating (I apologize for TMI). I don’t have to lie down after eating because I feel like I am receiving a visit from Death. I also no longer get nervous and shy away from meals knowing how they are going to affect me. I would say that is a vast improvement. Do I have days where I still feel icky? Yes. I still believe I have an underlying problem that has not been diagnosed yet but I also believe that Microbiome is helping.
As a side note, I came down with the flu on New Year’s Eve. In my opinion, it was a rather mild case and I recovered a lot faster than I thought I would. Now, I cannot say with certainty that Microbiome was my saving grace but hey, it couldn’t have hurt!
Weight Loss: Research suggests that healthy microflora (bacteria and microscopic algae and fungi) in the gut can speed your metabolism and support fat loss. Probiotic support can lead to healthy weight loss!
I have to be honest that this is an added bonus of taking this supplement. Like many, I indulged over the holidays and probably will continue to do so during the colder months. What, I am just trying to stay warm this winter!! I haven’t noticed the scale going down but I haven’t noticed it going up either and with the rich foods I consumed around Christmas … that is definitely a bonus. Just the possibility of this being a benefit of taking this supplement is a bonus in my book.
Mood Support & Energy Booster: Did you know that poor nutrient absorption can leave you short on essential vitamins and minerals? I have to share that I knew this but that is only because I have undergone weight loss surgery and my body absorbs everything differently now. Currently, I am tested every six months to see where my levels are as I have faced a number of deficiencies in the three years since I had my surgery. Remember when I mentioned I am not great at taking pills? Yeah, vitamins are a form of pill. Warning signs of nutrient deficiency are fatigue, irritability, and a lack of motivation. Irritability and lack of motivation aren’t news in my world but fatigue, now that is a different story. I can normally run on four hours of sleep and when my husband finds me on the couch at 8:00 PM on a Friday night he knows that something is wrong. In other words, it’s time for a blood draw!
Probiotics work to develop a healthy microenvironment in the digestive system and gastrointestinal tract in order to optimize nutrient absorption, which gives you positive energy and happy feelings.
For me, my system is different than most people. Supplements do not affect me the way they do others so the impact of this benefit is felt but perhaps not as intensely as someone with a normal digestive system/gastrointestinal tract. I have a difficult time absorbing things so, for me this has been the least effective part of the supplement. That being said, anyone with a normal setup a.k.a. body may see different results. That being said, my knowledge of this topic thanks to years of experience and some research says that everything claimed is true. Our levels CAN and DO have an effect on many aspect of our lives. It is important to keep your vitamin and mineral levels in check in order to maintain a healthy and happy life!
Hmm, that was a lot of talking, wasn’t it? In short, I highly recommend this product to anyone that is looking to improve their digestive and intestinal health. If you are looking to boost your immune system or lose weight, this supplement certainly couldn’t hurt! The difference in how my stomach (gut) has felt since I started taking the Microbiome system is day and night. Again, it did not solve all of my problems; however, I believe that I have an underlying health issue that just has not yet been discovered. Talk to your physician and then check out Microbiome Plus+ GI Probiotic!
