HOCUS POCUS PINWHEEL COOKIES ~ WHAT YOU NEED

  • Butter
  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Salt
  • Baking Powder
  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Food Coloring (recommended gel)

After separating the dough into 3 even bunches, adding coloring and kneading it until ready, you should end up with a beautifully colored ball of deliciousness!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups butter room temperature
  • 1 1/2  cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/8 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • Purple Gel Food Coloring
  • Green Gel Food Coloring
  • Orange Gel Food Coloring

Instructions

  • In the bowl of an electric mixer cream together butter and sugar.
  • Add in eggs and vanilla and continue mixing until well incorporated
  • In a separate bowl mix flour, salt and baking powder.
  • Add the flour mixture into the butter mixture a little at a time mixing between additions, until all of the flour is incorporated.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and divide it in three equal parts.
  • Add about ¼ tsp purple gel food coloring to one of the parts and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Add about ¼ tsp orange gel food coloring to one of the parts and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Add about ¼ tsp green gel food coloring to one of the parts and knead until the color is evenly distributed.
  • Place purple dough on a piece of parchment or wax paper and roll out into an approximately 9×15 rectangle. Place on a baking sheet and set aside.
  • Repeat with the green and orange dough rolling it out on parchment or wax paper.
  • Keeping the purple dough on the parchment. Do the same with the green and orange dough by layering them, with parchment or wax paper in between, and then place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes.
  • Remove dough from the refrigerator. Carefully remove the green dough from the parchment paper and lay it on top of the purple dough lining up the edges as best as possible. Then, add the orange dough layer on top of the green dough layer.
  • Using a sharp knife trim the edges of the dough to make a rectangle.
  • Starting with the shorter end of the rectangle carefully roll up the dough you can use the parchment paper to help. Put gentle pressure on the dough as you roll it so that it sticks together nicely.
  • Wrap the rolled dough in parchment or wax paper and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • When ready to bake-Preheat oven to 350 and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Unwrap dough and place on a cutting board.
  • Using unflavored dental floss OR a sharp knife, slice dough into ¼ inch slices and place on prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, remove from oven and allow to cool for 1-2 minutes before removing from baking sheet to a metal cooling rack.
  • Store in an airtight container.

I cannot wiat for Halloween this year.... well I can because I am excited to enjoy the summer monhts BUT Fall is always my fave. I love watching scary movies all October long and I love this movie and have to make these cookies for my niece ;)
