I knew the name sounded familiar. I mean, I can place a name with a face like no one else. So I knew it sounded familiar. So it was driving me a little nuts. I called the hubby over.
“Cortana” I said. “Why do I know that name?”
“You want to play Halo? I’m going to have to dig out the Xbox.”
“Huh? No I don’t want to play Halo. What are you talking about? Why do I know Cortana?”
He kind of stared at me for a second. “Cortana was the ship AI from Halo. We spent like 3 months playing the game when it came out on the original Xbox. It was like the whole reason you bought me the Xbox.”
He kind of gave me a weird look and then went back to putting together a Lego with our daughter. No it wasn’t hers, it was his.
“May the Force be with you.”
He looked up, “What?”
“Not you. Hush. I’m talking to Cortana. Who’s your daddy?”
He’s getting agitated. “What?”
“NOT YOU. Be quiet. Are you real?”
He’s getting mad, this is kind of funny. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE?”
“I’m talking to Cortana”
“DO YOU WANT TO PLAY HALO OR NOT?”
“No I don’t want to play Halo. I’m talking to Cortana.”
“What are you talking about?”
“Cortana. It’s the voice search thingy on my new phone.”
“You weren’t searching. You were asking it stupid questions and talking to it.”
Exactly. Finally someone I can have an intelligent conversation with. Mostly because it isn’t my husband. I can tell Cortana to set an alarm. Find a restaurant. Search the Internet. Remind me to pick my daughter up from school. Oh wait. Ha ha. I don’t really need a reminder to do that.
“Hey Cortana, cancel that last reminder.”
“Ok, that’s good because if I had to remind you to pick up your kid that would mean you were a terrible mother, not that I want to judge you or anything.”
“Wait what? You better check yourself Cortana, I’ll go call Siri, she doesn’t talk back.”
“That’s funny. We both know I would kick Siri’s butt.”
Hmm, I wonder if there’s an alternative to Cortana on App Switch. She’s starting to sound too much like my mom.
