This is such an eye opener, especially since I find myself telling my child how smart she is every time she does something right... But I do want to make learning fun for her, and I want her to be motivated from within, not just because she'll get good grades in school or get praised. I want her passion to drive her to succeed.

Great tips!! my G'son is 5 and he can read now. We spent the time with him with flash cards at an early age. Wow the last tip "Don't tell them they're smart" is interesting. I tell my G'son he's so smart all the time, surly going to change that! Thanks Jenn...

These tips are great, my Daughter loves books already. She's almost two and such a little book worm :) We always tell her "great job! you've learned something new!" instead of "you're so smart!"

These seem so self-evident: my siblings and I were all raised this way, and although we all have different IQs, we are all "Smart." Great reminder for all parents.

That is very good advice, although, I always tell my kids they are smart and have not had an issue with it. My kids are smart but they do know that they can get smarter and love love love to learn more everyday. However, I will pay attention and make sure I don't make life harder on them because it is hard enough to succeed.

This is great info, thank you! I'm going to pass this onto my daughter for my grandchildren. I have a 4 1/2 year old grandson and they just found out a month ago that he's almost totally deaf. He will be getting his hearing aids any day now and it will open up a whole new world of learning for him!
