Can you feel the Love tonight? No, it’s not just a random question. It’s an iconic song from an iconic movie and it is now getting the treatment it deserves. Disney’s The Lion King is joining the Walt Disney Signature Collection with a whole slew of secrets and goodies to enthrall a whole new generation.
Getting a movie out of the Disney vault is always a big deal if you’re a movie buff like me, but it’s especially nice when they do it right, and the Signature Collection is definitely doing it right. Obviously, you get the movie itself, in all its Blu-ray glory. Once again you can watch the timeless tale of the Circle of Life as Simba grows to adulthood in the African Savannah and overthrows Scar to take his rightful place as leader of the Pride Lands.
But the extra’s make it worthwhile. My favorite is the sing-along version of the movie. The only one who won’t love that is my wife. She has to listen to me sing along to Hakuna Matata. My daughter happens to love my singing, or so she says. You also get to see the recording sessions. There you get to see the actors speaking their lines while seeing the animation right next to it. You can see how their gestures and mannerisms are translated into Animated movie magic.
The other extra that I love is the Inside the Story Room section. Co-directors Roger Allen and Rob Minkoff present actual footage of their story pitches for various scenes. See how scenes transform from their original ideas to the final vision.
Last but not least (and actually not last because there are a bunch of other extras) is Nathan and Matthew: The Extended Lion King Conversation. In this feature, Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick talk about some fun and hilarious moments and memories.
So check out the Lion King today on Disney Blu-ray and DVD
