As a Cincinnati native, there are a number of traditions that I was introduced to as a child that I still hold near and dear to my heart; traditions that I share with my family now that I am married and a mommy. There are trips to Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden to see the animals and newest zoo babies. Days of adventure at Kings Island to test the latest roller coaster and indulge in funnel cake. Trips to our local pumpkin patch, including a hayride, to welcome the arrival of fall. But once winter hits, we start gearing up for Christmas and start our holiday season off with a performance of “The Nutcracker” thanks to the Cincinnati Ballet. One of the traditions that we hold year round is visiting Frisch’s® Big Boy® on the rare occasion when we go out to eat.
I’ve written about my love for Frisch’s Big Boy, especially their burgers. Their salad bar is pretty dang tasty too. But a couple of weeks ago, I was introduced to new menu items that have made our holiday season a bit easier when out and about, making merry and bright. I’m talking five meals that remind me of mama’s cooking priced at just $7.99! Think mashed potatoes, gravy, and green beans paired with home cooking to warm you from the inside out. Come Home to Frisch’s with Carved Turkey, Country Fried Chicken, Country Fried Steak, Roast Beef, or Meatloaf! Not that I’m biased or anything but the Roast Beef and Country Fried Chicken are my favorite!! And did I mention the rolls? Oh my gosh … SO GOOD!
Now, I don’t know about you, but when I was growing up, my parents wouldn’t allow us to have dessert unless we cleared our plates. With food this good, that won’t be a problem. After a great meal, why not celebrate with a holiday edition of Frisch’s best-selling dessert; Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake!
So what happens when you combine two traditions during the holidays? Complete magic all thanks to Frisch’s and some of their traditions that I recently learned about. Let me explain!
Close your eyes and imagine the perfect family date night. Dinner filled with comfort foods and smells from your childhood. Mashed potatoes and green beans were always staples on our table during the cold winter months. Add some, roast beef in my case, and perfection. Then, splurging on dessert with just the right amount of chocolate and peppermint goodness, topped with hot fudge! Sounds like the perfect night, right? But wait, there is more! Why not head out to a performance of “The Nutcracker” courtesy of Cincinnati Ballet. The vibrant colors, warmth, performance, and music! It warms my heart just thinking about every moment of the show!
Do you need to get into the holiday spirit? THIS is the way!
I love that two of my favorites are partners. Did I mention how important tradition is to me? This may explain why Frisch’s Big Boy is so dear to my heart. Frisch’s has a rich history of community support. Since the very first performance of “The Nutcracker” in 1974, Frisch’s Restaurants has been the Cincinnati Ballet’s primary sponsor. This is one of the longest-lasting examples of corporate sponsorship in American arts history!! The Original Hot Fudge Cake, still available at restaurants, debuted in 1970. For a limited time, through February 7th, for the first time ever, Frisch’s is offering a holiday edition with the Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake. Two great ways to make memories that are backed by traditions that have been around longer than me!
“The Nutcracker” with Cincinnati Ballet may be coming to a close for this year but there is still time to head to Frisch’s Big Boy for a taste of comfort topped off with a refreshing piece of Peppermint Hot Fudge Cake.
Grab your family, bundle up, and Come Home to Frisch’s!
