Celebrating Love #LoveHallmark #Giveaway

by Heather

Celebrating love. We work to celebrate love every day; it’s a family moto. After losing my father suddenly when I was 14 years old, I learned the importance of living every day to the fullest as I know firsthand life changes in an instant. We never go to bed angry, fights are few and far between, and we share a lot of laughs, hugs, and kisses. I know it all sounds like way too much sunshine and rainbows but I want to make sure my daughter grows up surrounded by love. It sounds like every day is Valentine’s Day at our house, doesn’t it? No, we are still “normal” … well, whatever that means, and live with life’s everyday events so when Valentine’s Day is upon us, we still work to celebrate the day; just in our own way.

Valentine’s Day! Thinking back to my teenage years I remember hearts, flowers, and cards. As I moved into my twenties and had a serious boyfriend, now my husband, the day became more romanticized with dinner, small gifts, and lovey dovey everything. Then I became a parent and I started thinking back to my childhood. Mom and dad rarely went out to celebrate the night. We would have a special family dinner; normally dad grilled steaks and they would give us, the littles, and a small gift with a card. As we got older we started getting them small gifts, often homemade, too. My husband and I decided to follow suit.

Our Valentine’s Day started out with a special day of grocery shopping for some fun foods to go along with our surprise fondue dinner. We all love fondue but going to a restaurant can be really expensive, so we bought our own pot and enjoy it on special occasions. We went through the store picking up ingredients and dropping hints until she figured out what was for dinner. When we left the store it was SNOWING! And I don’t mean just a little snow; I mean it was really SNOWING. This was perfect because for weeks my daughter has been asking, “Do you want to build a snowman?” Unfortunately, our weather hasn’t been cooperating but this day, this day was going to be different.

As soon as we got home, my little one and husband geared up to head outdoors. I stayed in and prepped for our meal. Between chopping and sorting I took a moment to put together gifts for my two loves. Thanks to visit to the mall for a small gift for my husband and a special delivery from Hallmark, this was easy! By the time they came inside to warm up by the fire, their gifts were wrapped and dinner was just moments away. We enjoyed our evening with a fire, fondue, a great family film, a few small gifts (which they both loved) and togetherness. The perfect way for our little family to celebrate a special day dedicated to love.

You know, I have a lot of friends who poo poo Valentine's Day as a made up holiday to sell cards. That's ridiculous! I think Valentine's Day is a wonderful opportunity to show the people in your life how special they are to you.

I totally forgot that it was valentine day until I got to the grocery store and saw roses everywhere. Even then, I didn't think much of it. My husband knows that I love to play scratch off lottery bingo cards. He gave me a card full of them. Did it cost alot? No, but it made me feel happy.
