Winter is slowing fading away, well… in most states and Mother Nature is awakening from her slumber to signal that the start of spring is here! If you are anything like me, spring brings a sense of renewal, vitality, and joy. It’s a time to bid farewell to the cold, put away your winter clothes and break out the shorts as we embrace the warmth and beauty that spring brings. With longer days, blooming flowers, and chirping birds, there’s no shortage of reasons to celebrate this special season.

10 Ways to Celebrate the Start of Spring!

1. Go on a Nature Walk or Hike:
Spring is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors and witness nature’s revival firsthand. Living out in the country, there are always new places to adventure to that we haven’t seen before. Be sure to take a time out for a leisurely stroll in a nearby park or venture out on a scenic hike in the countryside. Breathe in the fresh air, listen to the birds, and marvel at the vibrant colors of blooming flowers and budding trees. Don’t forget to bring along a camera to capture the beauty of spring.

2. Have a Picnic in the Park:
Pack a basket with your favorite snacks and treats, grab a blanket, and head to the nearest park, or just your backyard, for a picnic. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature. Choose a sunny spot under a blossoming tree or by a tranquil pond. Invite friends or family to join you for a fun-filled day of food, laughter, and relaxation.

3. Plant a Garden:
Spring is the ideal time to get your hands dirty and start gardening. I have been dreaming about an area to garden since we moved into our home a couple of years ago and this year is the year! Whether you have a spacious backyard or a small balcony, you can plant flowers, herbs, vegetables, or succulents to brighten up your outdoor space. Gardening not only adds beauty to your surroundings but also provides a great outlet for stress relief and creativity.

Get your gardening gloves ready and watch your garden bloom throughout the season.

4. Attend a Spring Festival or Event:
Many communities host spring festivals and events to celebrate the season’s arrival. Cities big and small love to celebrate sunshine and warmer weather so keep an eye out for new happenings and events! From cherry blossom festivals to farmers’ markets to art fairs, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Check local listings for upcoming events in your area and mark your calendar. Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere, indulge in delicious food, and soak up the experiences that spring has to offer.

5. Try Outdoor Yoga or Tai Chi:
Embrace the tranquility of spring by practicing yoga or tai chi outdoors. Find a peaceful spot in your backyard, a park, or a beach, and roll out your yoga mat. Engage in gentle stretches, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices to rejuvenate your body, mind, and spirit. Connecting with nature while practicing yoga or tai chi can enhance your sense of well-being and foster a deeper appreciation for the beauty of spring.

My teen has been working on meditation, recently. My three-year-old even sits with her and tries to do what her sister does. Now that the weather is turning, they have been going outside and taking in their surroundings and love it.

6. Host a Spring Cleaning Party:
Channel your newfound energy into decluttering and refreshing your home with a spring cleaning party. Invite friends or family to join forces in tackling household chores, organizing closets, and tidying up living spaces. Play upbeat music, serve refreshing drinks, and reward yourselves with tasty treats after a productive cleaning session. A clean and organized home sets the stage for a fresh start and a renewed sense of vitality.

This is one of my favorite parts of spring! As soon as that warmer weather hits and the windows go open, I’m in clean out mode! It’s time to purge everything we no longer need, clothing that no longer fits, and I start the process of redoing almost the entire house!

7. Go Cherry Blossom Viewing:
Cherry blossoms are synonymous with the arrival of spring in many parts of the world; especially in the Midwest! Plan a visit to a local cherry blossom hotspot such as a botanical garden or park. Witness the beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom, and take leisurely walks beneath the canopy of delicate pink petals. Capture the magical moments with photographs and create lasting memories of this cherished spring tradition.

Cherry blossoms are one of my favorite memories from being little. We had a couple of cherry blossom trees in our yard when I was growing up and for every special occasion that happened during the spring, there were pictures taken around and under the tree. From my first communions to Easter morning and fun family gatherings, the cherry blossom trees were always a part of the festivities!

8. Take Up a New Outdoor Hobby:
Spring offers the perfect opportunity to explore new outdoor hobbies and activities. Whether it’s cycling, kayaking, birdwatching, or gardening, there’s no shortage of recreational pursuits to try. Step out of your comfort zone, embrace adventure, and immerse yourself in the wonders of nature. Engaging in outdoor hobbies not only promotes physical fitness but also fosters a deeper connection with the natural world.

9. Enjoy a Springtime Feast:
Celebrate the flavors of spring with a delicious feast featuring seasonal ingredients. Visit farmers’ markets or local produce stands to source fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Get creative in the kitchen by preparing dishes that showcase the vibrant flavors and colors of spring. From asparagus risotto to strawberry rhubarb pie, let your culinary imagination run wild. Share your springtime feast with loved ones and savor every moment of togetherness.

If you are lucky enough to have a garden or you’ve been growing vegetables and herbs inside while you wait for the weather to cooperate, this would be a great time to share your bounty while celebrating the start of growing season.
