We all know that being a parent means a few things. First, “alone time” is a thing of the past. Second, romantic dinners, what are those? To be able to go out and enjoy an evening, like adults, with no cartoon mice dancing and singing at you, or dogs barking is something that is very much savored.
From the second we walked in the door at Bonefish Grill – Hyde Park, they greeted us warmly. Even with a busy night on their books, the hostess was welcoming and friendly. The table was just as good; we had a view of the whole restaurant so that we could enjoy the people watching and the hustle and bustle of a busy night in a great restaurant.
The lights were glowing, not dark, but just right. The feel of warmth and love was in the air. The fact there was an almost 6 month old sitting between my husband and I that was playing peek-a-boo with my napkin for most of dinner, didn’t detract from the ambiance at all for us. Our waitress greeted us and welcomed us with a smile sure to brighten anyone’s day.
I chose what was sure to please, a Fresh Watermelon Martini. It was so cool and refreshing. I have to admit, martinis aren’t always as good as they sound. They normally are so strong, well at least for my taste. The watermelon martini wasn’t harsh. It cleansed my palette in preparation for the meal to come.
Our first course was a house special, Bang Bang Shrimp. With just the right amount of heat, you just can’t stop eating them. If possible though, the special ‘Lobster Stuffed Shrimp’ is amazing. Served sizzling hot on a small cast iron skillet, you have just the right amount of lobster stuffing in the over-sized shrimp to leave you wanting more.
As I said, we don’t go out often. That means I ordered much more than I really should have; and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I ordered the Fresh Day Boat Scallops. I will just let you think on that. Large, Succulent, Scallops. Served over a bed of corn risotto. Topped with, are you ready, BACON. BOOM, drops mic. Ok just kidding, but really, seriously, can this get any better. It did, because I ate all of it. My husband ordered Pesto Shrimp & Scallops, with Au gratin potatoes. They tasted amazing. It accented the scallops and shrimp without overpowering them so that they could remain the stars of the show.
Our 6 month old, well, we ordered him the steak with a crab cake. He was very hungry. We are raising him right though. He made sure to share with mom and dad. Bonefish Grill, is known for their ability to cook amazing seafood. Let’s just say that if they ever change their name to BoneSteak Grill, I would still be in attendance. Okay, I know that was a stretch on the name, but really the steak was cooked perfectly. The cut was so tender I am pretty sure I didn’t chew it; it just melted in my mouth. The crab cake was great, but in this dish the steak was the star.
If you haven’t eaten yet, then I must apologize. I know I am making this hard on you. But I am almost finished; I just have to tell you about dessert. Most of the time I want chocolate. Honestly, the meals we just had were filling, I most likely should have just worn my yoga pants rather than my skinny jeans, but the special they had was strawberry shortcake. It was summer in a bowl. The perfect end to a perfect dinner. With just a little sweetness, you didn’t feel like you couldn’t make it to the car.
As we enjoyed our meal, I noticed the manager had been stopping at our table throughout the evening. At first I thought being such “well known Food Bloggers” (or not) we were getting a little bit of the special treatment. But as I watched him throughout the evening, it became apparent that he was speaking to everyone just like he had spoken to us. He made you feel like you were at the kitchen table in his home. He chatted with you, he told you stories, he talked about the food, the people, and made us feel like everyone was family.
If you want a night out for you and that special someone in your life, or to take the whole family out for an amazing dinner, Bonefish Grill is a real crowd pleaser.
