Recently I was given the chance to review Biblical Beauty: Ancient Secrets and Modern Solutions by Rachelle Weisberger. I was a little uncertain about what I was getting myself into as I don’t typically read books about beauty; however, I was drawn in by the idea of a book with focus on biblical and ancient times.
The book is laid out in chapters that cover skin care, sun care, makeup, hair care, healthy aging, motherhood, and feminine leadership. I also enjoyed the focus on the balance between work and family.
Think about everyday life and the role that beauty plays in our world. Beauty magazines, television, the world of celebrity, makeup, everything exercise and diet. Beauty is everywhere and there is no escaping it. Then again, like anything, it is all about how we look at things and what we do with the information that is given to us. I love that Weisberger highlights the idea that beauty is multifaceted; it isn’t just about what we see on the surface, this really resonated with me.
Until just recently I held a high paying job with the federal government that required me to dress nicely, do my hair, wear makeup, and put my best foot forward. Sound great, right? It sounds great on the surface but not so much. The job didn’t make me feel good about myself. No matter how nicely I dressed, how perfect my makeup was, or if I was sporting an amazing hairstyle I felt ugly and that radiated from the inside out. Now, as I transition to the next phase of my life I have found that I feel more attractive even when I am wearing pajama pants and a comfy t-shirt. As Weisberger shares, biblical beauty resonates throughout the entire body and radiates physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. Due to the changes that I have made in my life, I now feel more beautiful because my level of confidence, happiness, worth, and overall welfare has increased; this radiates to the outside and makes me more attractive in every aspect of life.
While this is aspect of the book is what really drew my focus, Weisberger’s book offers so much more! She has created a practical beauty guide using things that are already a part of our everyday lives. She also introduces women from the Hebrew Bible and shares stories of the connection between their physical attributes, inner strengths, and spirituality. In short, Weisberger gives us an insider’s look into the history of beauty.
I love that Weisberger urges us to celebrate the beauty in our lives; especially the beauty within. I highly encourage you to pick up of this book for your mother, sister, friend, and self today and start reading. Well done, Ms. Weisberger, well done!
