Just because you live in a loft doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy pleasant surroundings. Thanks to the vast number of DIY stores around, now we all have access to cheap materials to help us transform our rooms. Maybe you are living in student housing for a few years and are worried about changing the decor in the room. Or maybe you are on a short term lease. Speak to the landlord, and you might find that they are happy for you to do the work as long as you carry it out to a high standard and leave it when you go.
Here are some awesome interior design ideas for your loft.
Clear The Room
First you must empty the room. Take out the furniture and relocate it. Lift the old carpet and throw it away.
How To Decorate
In this project, you will have three plain walls and a feature wall. Remove the old wallpaper with a steamer. They are cheap and allow you to shift the paper without causing much damage to the walls with your scraper. After you have done the first few small sections, you should know the optimum time to hold the steam plate against the walls. If you hold it there for too long, it will damage the plaster, so don’t overdo it.
When the walls are clear, repair any areas of damage with interior filler. It is better than plaster because it is easy to smooth with sandpaper.
Paint three of the walls with silk paint and use a roller to get a smooth finish. Put some new wallpaper on the feature wall.
A New Floor
You could use new carpet, but what about using laminate flooring? This product has many advantages over carpet, particularly if you are a always on the go or have pets. It is durable, easy to wipe clean, and cheaper than carpet in many cases. Anyone who can wield a saw can install laminate flooring. The pieces click together, and you only need to cut the one at the end of a row. Buy a coping saw to make the intricate cuts for doorways, etc. It sounds more complicated than it is; just take your time.
Bring In New Furniture
Investigate the beds and sofas available in store and online. You have a difficult decision to make because there are many in every price range. If the room is small and you want to maximize space, think about buying a modern sofa bed. They are comfortable and serve the purpose well. If you have room for a traditional bed, buy the best mattress you can afford, even at the expense of the bed frame. It is a sound investment, and you will be glad you did.
Window Blinds
What window blinds will you use? There is a wide choice available, and each has benefits. Think about roller, pleated, venetian, or vertical units. They are easy to install and will enhance your room design.
Lighting Solution
It is easy to replace the central light fitting with a modern alternative. You can put the existing one back when you leave. If you are in any doubt, use an electrician.
As you can see, just because you must live in one room doesn’t mean you should settle for anything but the best. You will find that the other people in the building will stop in for more cups of coffee or to borrow a cup of sugar than they used too. That is a sign of success!
