We have a rather small family. It is just my husband, daughter, and me but it suits us … or it did. After a great deal of discussion and back and forth, in December 2013 we introduced a new member to our family, Felix. He is absolutely adorable, a little over a year old, and is part English Shepherd, part Labrador.
All has been fantastic since Felix joined our family. As my daughter is an only child he has given her a best friend and playmate. He likes to snuggle with me on the couch when my little one is cuddling with her daddy. And I have to be honest in saying he makes me feel a little safer as my husband and I are heavy sleepers and he is the perfect guard dog. Life has been great … until I decided that Felix needed a playmate of his own.
In December 2014 we welcomed a new family member, Oliver. He is now about five months old and is part German Shepherd, part Shar Pei. He slobbers like crazy after he drinks but he is absolutely adorable, keeps Felix on his toes, and he is another playmate for my daughter and snuggle buddy for the family. Life is amazing … unless we decide to have another baby. 😉
There is one problem though. About a month after we brought Oliver home, my husband realized that he is actually allergic to him. Or, perhaps it is the presence of two dogs. My husband and I both suffer from allergies so it was likely that one of us was going to be effected and indeed it happened. Since we both suffer, we try to be careful about the products that we introduce to our home since a number of them seem to exasperate our allergies. In addition, my daughter and I both have extremely sensitive skin so we are extra careful about the types of products that we use on surfaces like our furniture, bedding, and even our carpeting. Although they both have extremely comfortable, luxurious beds, Felix and Oliver like to snuggle and sleep on the couch. Felix likes to lounge on the bed (when daddy isn’t looking). And of course they both like to rub, roll, crawl, and sleep on the carpet. Needless to say, there is Felix and Oliver and their dander everywhere.
I am what some would call a “clean freak.” In fact, I am so emphatic about cleanliness that we purchased a Roomba. Robot Ray runs over our common areas at night when we are sleeping which allows us to wake up to a fresh and clean home every morning. He is pretty cool. Alas, it doesn’t matter how much I clean and how much Robot Ray cleans, allergens find their way in and easily hide in the carpets, furniture, and on other surfaces. There had to be a way to cut down on my husband’s reaction to the pups without me spending every hour of the day cleaning.
I was recently given the opportunity to work with The Ecology Works Company and try one of their eco-friendly products. I was sent a bottle of their Anti-Allergen Solution to try in my home. The Anti-Allergen Solution neutralizes allergens in carpets, upholstery, fabrics, on surfaces, and even on your pets, rendering these allergens harmless to allergy sufferers. It is the best hypoallergenic solution to fight indoor allergies without progressing to taking medication.
One of the great things about The Ecology Works Company’s Anti-Allergen Solution is that it is a plant and mineral based formula. It is completely free of perfumes, dyes, and other allergy triggers; all three bonuses and almost must-haves in our home. In fact, the solution is scent free. I have tried other solutions and found that they leave behind a sticky residue, often have an odor even though they claim to be scent free, and one even stained my couch. The Ecology Works Company’s Anti-Allergen Solution IS stain free, IS scent free, and does not leave a residue behind.
I still clean like a madwoman but we use our Anti-Allergen Solution in conjunction with our efforts. I have noticed that my husband doesn’t cough as much, sneeze as much, and he isn’t as nearly congested. Happily, my daughter and I have not been compromised in the efforts to help my husband. The pets are safe, daddy is happy, and mommy and daughter aren’t itchy. I think this is a win in our book.
I do have to make note of one “flaw.” It was agreed upon that the company would send me their Anti-Allergen Solution to review and I received a different product. Upon contacting one of their representatives an apology was extended, I was informed the correct product would be sent out immediately, and they allowed me to keep the product erroneously sent. A new product was shipped to me immediately but unfortunately, it was the wrong product again. Another apology was extended and I received the correct product on the third attempt. Although this error wasn’t something that really affected me, this is something that could become costly to the company. Hopefully this issue has since been resolved and was just an isolated event.
This one snafu aside, this is still a great product and one that I recommend that you try should allergens be a problem in your home.
