I’ll be honest. I don’t usually go to the movies for high art. I go to the movies to be entertained. In an increasingly chaotic world, a couple hours of escapism or inspiration. I’m not looking for Citizen Kane or post-modern Swedish expressionism with subtitles. I don’t mind a smart, clever movie, but I want to be entertained and not bored. Now I don’t know what’s in the water at Marvel studios these days (magic dust, fairy powder) but whatever it is, they seem to have found the formula for fun entertaining movies.
And Ant-Man continues that winning formula.
Imagine being able to shrink to the size of an ant. And control ants. And fly around on ants. This is all possible thanks to Pym Particles (Don’t worry, it’s not really possible, I meant it was possible in the movie, if it was possible in real life you would become so dense you would sink into the Earth). After being imprisoned for several years for hacking a corporation in a Robin Hood fashion, Scott Lang wants nothing more than to go straight and see his little girl, but being an ex-con makes that a little hard. Hank Pym arranges an “interview” that will set up Scott to become the Ant-Man, a mysterious hero that is almost a myth. Hopefully you see the connection. Hank Pym. Pym Particles…He has been keeping the secret for years, but when someone else is on the verge of duplicating his discovery he must do whatever he can to keep the discovery out of the hands of the evildoers of the world.
Ant-Man is funny. It’s fun. Its action packed. There are even a couple parts that will tug at your heart strings. It’s a good movie. Go see it. Like seriously, go now … you’ll thank me!
