Amwell for the Win ~ Medical Care from the Comfort of Home

This is a sponsored post with Mums the Word Network and Amwell. All opinions are my own.

It’s 10 o’clock at night. Your throat hurts. Your ears hurt. You need to talk to someone but the emergency room is overkill (and not cheap). Besides, you don’t feel good and don’t really want to drive anywhere. For that matter, who cares what time it is, when you don’t feel good do you ever really want to go anywhere? No, you want to lie in bed and not move. You’re achy, tired, you just want to sleep. So what are you supposed to do?

The answer is a computer away. Or a tablet. Or a smart phone. The answer is Amwell, your new resource for online telehealth. So what is telehealth?

To put it simply, telehealth is online doctors. Like actual doctors. This isn’t a simple online symptom checker. It’s real, licensed doctors. You can talk to them, they can see you, and they can diagnose your symptoms; and in many states they can even write prescriptions. It’s like the best of both worlds. Think about it. You no longer have to bundle up in the cold winter (if it gets cold where you live), get out of bed, and drive when you’re miserable (have you ever had to drive a car when you needed to throw up? Not fun). Now no more hoping your doctor can get you in, no more driving when you feel terrible.

Hmm, perhaps we should take this a step further. Let’s add a child or perhaps children to the mix. That always simplifies things! Think about your day, everything that you have to accomplish, and how difficult these “must do” items make it to schedule a doctor’s appointment. Not so simple, is it?

I was introduced to Amwell a few weeks ago when I had a psychology appointment. There was a lot going on in life, I knew I needed to talk to someone, but my schedule was full and I couldn’t find 2 to 3 hours on any day, in the near future, to go to an office for an appointment. In less than 24 hours I was able to locate a counselor, talk through what was going on, and I walked away with new ways and ideas on how to cope with the things going on in my life.

That’s why this week, when I was in the middle of planning my sister’s baby shower, packing for a business trip, and working on my daughter’s birthday party, I knew that Amwell was the answer when I woke up with a severe headache, sore throat, achy body, and a multitude of symptoms that lead me to believe the flu was preparing to visit my home. After another wonderful experience, without leaving the home or disrupting my entire, I was able to get the help that I needed. I’ve had some terrible experiences picking doctors in the past but with Amwell, I’m two for two and totally sold.

This is a great option for anyone with a busy life, children, or in my case, someone looking for a new physician that will work with my schedule. Amwell for the win!

There's just something about the rent-a-doc thing that makes me uncomfortable. For some things it may be okay. I just think a doctor should have a relationship with a patient and be able to lay hands on to exam and diagnose.

I will have to check this out. I got sick a couple of weeks ago and didn't feel up to going to the doctor. I had no choice and it ended up I had strep throat. Thank you so much for sharing

I hate going to the doctor. My life is really quite busy and I always make appointments and then have to move them. This would be so convenient. Calling when I need help, when I have time. Great plan.
