700 Thread 100% Organic Egyptian Cotton Sheets from Francois et Mimi ~ Not so quality … “high quality” sheets #CottonSheetReview

by Heather

1385966524I absolutely LOVE sleep. I adore it. I sometimes think about it all and just wait for the moment that I can crawl into bed. It’s funny that when I was younger I was a night owl and could go on three to four hours of sleep easily; sometimes just two. Now that I am older a.k.a. now that I am a mommy, I treasure my sleep and most definitely need it.

Now, I don’t know about you but to enjoy a restful night of sleep I need an amazing bed. It would be fair to say that it starts with the mattress but the real icing on the cake, for me, is the sheets. I love to snuggle down, feel soft material against my skin, and feel warm without overheating due to the material the sheets are made from. In other words, I really like cotton sheets. They are comfortable, soft, and breathe. More importantly, when I look at my bed, they are inviting.

Hmm, now that I am sitting here thinking about my bed and bedding, I have come to realize that I own a lot of sheets. I have sheets for the summer, sheets for the winter, and fancy sheets. We won’t discuss how many sets I have, just assume I have enough. ;)

Still … because I love sleep, an amazing bed, and apparently sheets, I was really excited when selected to try 700 Thread 100% Organic Egyptian Cotton Sheets from Francois et Mimi. Hey, I LOVE sheets!

The product arrived in a timely manner and I was really excited when I went to the door and picked up a box that was much heavier than expected. For some reason I equate weight to quality when it comes to bedding so I was ready to get our sheets washed up and on the bed. Have I mentioned that I love doing laundry too? I digress.

As I pulled the sheets out of the package I noticed that they were really stiff and really thick. I shrugged assuming this was due to coming straight from the factory and figured that they would soften after being washed. I was wrong. As I pulled them out of the washer they still didn’t feel right and after going through the washer, I still wasn’t pleased with the lack of softness. I am not sure if this is because the sheets are made from an organic material but still, when I see 700 Thread Count I think soft, luxury, and quality. The sheets weren’t bringing any of these words to mind. As for the thickness, they are very thick. This is a product that I would likely use during the winter months as they would be too warm for warmer weather.

When I went to put the sheets on the bed I noticed something else. They don’t look anything like the sheets pictured. This mainly is due to the piping. The piping on the sheet set that I received reminds me of a stitch fold which is standard on “lower grade” sets; not what I expected on a high end set. I say high end because the retail value of the sheets, according to the company, is $249.99. They are however listed for $89.99 on Amazon. In my opinion, both prices are too high for this product. I would likely pay $40 at most for the “quality” of this product.

The other thing that confused me is the packaging. The color and size of the sheets are not listed anywhere. I had to physically try to put the sheets on my bed before I was able to confirm that the set was actually king size. As for the color, it is clearly black; however, most sheet set packages identify the size and color. Please note, I did not select the color, the company randomly selected and sent out sheets to their selected reviewers.

The one thing that I really liked about the sheets is the deep pocket. This makes it easier to make the bed. I am rather short, my bed is rather tall, and I often have to ask my husband for assistance. The deep pocket made the task a little easier; although I admit I still had him come in and help.

Overall, I can’t say this is a product that I would recommend; however, I admit that this is only my opinion and others may not agree with it. If you like a firmer, thicker sheet then this may be suitable for your home. That being said, I still question the price point as I don’t feel the product is high quality.

Hi Heather, Thanks for the review. I am currently considering these sheets & wondered about the "organic" label. Many times I find linens & other products are labeled "organic" in their title, probably because its kind of a "buzz" word, but apparently more in the sense of organic chemistry rather than referring to Organic as in Certified Organic by GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standards), or other certifying body - meaning that the fiber (in this case cotton) was grown & processed without herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, heavy metals, synthetics, artificials, or other chemicals. Usually this can be determined by there being some mention of the certifying body on the label, but if all else fails it will be indicated on the fiber content/care instructions tag which is sewn to the bottom edge of one of the sheets. It will read "100% Organic Cotton". If it is not certified it will simply read "100% Cotton". Could you tell me Might you be able to tell me what the tag on your sheets states? Thanks, Mary
