6 Skincare Mistakes You Need to Avoid

by Heather

Having the right routine when it comes to skincare is so important. Make sure you don’t fall victim to these major mistakes. If you do, then you may find that you end up harming your skin and this is the last thing you need.

Dipping Your Finger into the Product

If your eye cream or your foundation comes in a jar, then do not use your fingers to apply the product. Even if you know your hands are clean, you could well be transferring bacteria and oil into your cream, and this can cause skin problems. If you want to do something here then try and use a spatula or a fresh cotton swab. The main benefit to doing this is that it will help you to apply the product easier and it will also keep it hygienic for every application.

Rubbing your Skin

If you rub or pull your face, then this can put a lot of stress on your skin. You may find that you do this daily, and without even thinking about it. Little things, such as pulling your skin when putting on eyeliner, or even rubbing your eyes when applying eye cream can have a major impact. Over time, you may find that your skin loses elasticity, which can contribute to premature ageing. If you want to do something about this then one thing you can do is look into facials as this is a great way for you to tighten and tone your skin while improving your general appearance.

Not Cleaning Your Phone

Think about how many times you grab your phone. Quite a lot, right? One thing you can do is wipe your screen down once a week. Household cleaners damage your phone, so find one that’s friendly to the model of phone you have. If you don’t wipe your phone then you may end up transferring bacteria from your phone to your skin, which can lead to acne and blackheads.

Exfoliating too Often

Exfoliating is great for increasing your cell turnover. It also helps to bring your fresh cells to the surface. One thing to note is that daily exfoliation irritates your skin. If you want to help yourself here, then one thing you can do is exfoliate a few times a week and then ramp it up if required. Exfoliate more on any rough areas as well, because if you do this then you are bound to see a huge difference.

Ignoring Dehydration

Tight or flaking skin is a major sign that you are dehydrated. If you want to help yourself then one thing you can do is introduce a hyaluronic-acid moisturiser. You can this to your ritual in the morning and you can then introduce something a little richer at night.  This is the best way for you to give your dehydrated skin a bit of a boost so try and be mindful of that.

Not Cleaning Your Brushes

Makeup build-up and oil can affect your skincare routine. Wipe down your brushes between uses by using an alcohol cleanser, and then give them a deep clean from time to time. Washing your brushes in water once a week is also a very good thing to do, so make sure that you are mindful of that.

Taking care of our skin is essential for maintaining its health and appearance. By avoiding these six common skincare mistakes, we can ensure that our skin remains healthy and radiant.

I hate to admit that I don't always do all of this. BUT the one I really screw up on is -- Dipping Your Finger into the Product and the really sad part is I have a plastic bag full of the little paddles
