by Heather

NYC in the summer, have you ever been? Now is the perfect time for family travel and if you are like me, New York City is definitely on your bucket list. So the car is packed, everyone is ready to go, but… what do you do when you get there?

It’s almost impossible to run out of things to see and do in New York City. Even long-time residents make new discoveries, every day.

On the flipside, if you’re planning your first visit, there are certain things you don’t want to miss. Here are a few to consider.

Central Park

Part park and part museum, Central Park is a lush greenscape right in the heart of New York City. With sculptures, exhibits and even a zoo within its borders, Central Park has much more to offer than a pleasant outdoor stroll.

Noteworthy features within this park include a mock castle, an open-air theatre and several extravagant fountains such as the Bethesda Fountain. Central Park is also home to a number of seasonal features throughout the year, one of which being the Victorian Gardens amusement park.

Broadway

Broadway is a New York City roadway whose name has become synonymous with the American musical theatre industry. Broadway’s theater district is home to dozens of theaters, many of which have been the stage for iconic productions for decades.

Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty may be the most recognizable landmark in NYC. This large statue of a Roman goddess of liberty was a gift to the United States from French sculptors in the late 1880s.

Lady Liberty is celebrated as one of the first sights many new Americans see as they immigrate to the city.

Times Square

Times Square is a bustling commercial area and popular tourist destination that’s unmistakably recognizable because of the colorful billboards and advertisements lining the walls of the buildings surrounding the square.

As both a commercial hub and a center for numerous Broadway theaters, Times Square tends to be a very exciting place… 24 hours a day.

This is just a very short list of must-see destinations in NYC. Honestly, there really is something for everyone. Whether you’re traveling as part of a group or on your own, it’s easy to have a fantastic time in the famous Big Apple!

Have you been to New York City? If so, where is your favorite place to visit? Let us know with a brief comment so others can add to their bucket list!

These all look like great places to visit in NYC. I've been once, but just a ride through the countryside going to visit relatives in Connecticut. I wish we had been able to visit the Statue of Liberty and Central Park! They are definitely on the bucket list!
