Movie Review ~ Despicable Me 3

Despicable Me

It’s not often that a movie tells a story from the bad guy’s point of view. Usually the bad guy is, well, not very likable. It’s rare that you get a bad guy that you can empathize with and end up rooting for, but that is the charm of Despicable Me. The only other movie like that that I can think of off the top of my head is A Clockwork Orange. But fortunately, today we did not go see that (since the bad guy in that movie is slightly less likable), we saw Despicable Me 3.

Despicable Me

Gru is back as the “bad” guy turned good guy. He has left behind his life of crime and with his new wife Lucy is now catching the bad guys for the Anti-Villain League (AVL). When he fails to catch the infamous child-star turned super-villain, Balthazar Bratt, he and Lucy are fired from the AVL. It is at this point that Gru finds out he has a twin brother, Dru and he goes off with his family to find him. Oh, did I mention the Minions? Well the Minions are tired of living a life of good and when Gru won’t turn back to crime, they leave.

I’m not going to reveal any more spoilers, you’re going to have to go see the movie to see what happens with Dru, the Minions and Balthazar Brat, but trust me when I say that it is worth it to go find out what happens. See if Gru can win back the Minions. See if Lucy can adjust to becoming a mom. See if Gru can adjust to having a brother that wants to start a life of crime (it is the family business). See if Gru can take down Balthazar Bratt and get back in with the AVL.

You will laugh, you may cry, but you won’t be disappointed.

Despicable Me 3 is out now. Get your tickets here.

I've enjoyed Despicable Me 1 and 2 and I'm sure Despicable 3 would be just as great.
