LOVING ~ Our Favorite Quotes

As I watched Loving for the first time, I couldn’t help but take note of the number of emotions I seemed to be roller coaster through in the little over 2 hours that I was sitting in the theater.

Loving is one of the most emotional, inspirational films that I have seen in a long time and many of the movies messages are still with me today, a little over a month later. There were a number of messages conveyed strictly through actions, reactions, and silence. At the same time, there was a great deal that was said.

This movie has opened the door to a number of family conversations that I never thought I would have. It reminded me of the importance of not only standing up for myself but for others. It reminded me to be kind, always, because we never know what someone else is facing. It reminded me to take a step back, not to judge, and to always spread love and never hate.

These quotes say so much about the film, the Lovings, and the struggles that they faced and overcame. Thanks to the Lovings, on June 12 1967, the Supreme Court issued an unanimous decision striking down all anti-miscegenation laws as unconstitutional and in violation of the Fourteenth Amendment’s guarantee of equality.

The Lovings wanted nothing more than to live their lives and love each other. They didn’t set out to be activists; they merely reasonably expected that their fully legal marriage in Washington D.C. would suffice for them to live peacefully in their hometown in Virginia. … it did not. They stood up for themselves and their love and it changed the world.

Before her passing in 2008, Mild Loving spoke of her late husband, Richard, and said, “I miss him. He took care of me.” She never remarried.
