We Need To Talk About Updating Your FW Wardrobe On A Budget

by Heather

Wouldn’t it be nice to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes every season? Unfortunately back in the real world most of us have to pay for boring essentials like electricity, heat, food, and rent. This can really eat into your clothing budget! However, it is still possible to get a great FW wardrobe by being a savvy shopper. Read on to find out more.

Sort out what you already have

Before you even go anywhere near a store and start spending money, you need to take an inventory of what you already have. Take a look at what is serviceable for the FW season.

Depending on where you live you can experience a range of temperatures from pretty warm, to below zero in the depth of winter. This means that your wardrobe needs to be versatile to reflect this.

The best way of planning your wardrobe around a changeable climate is to work on the principle of layers. If each outfit is made up of 3-5 layers, you will have that flexibility to wear more or less depending on the temperature and the situation.

Pick some colors

Another way of being a savvy dresser and shopper is to stick to a color scheme. First, you need to pick a neutral base color. Check out this season’s colors in your local stores like Target and Sears for inspiration. These tend to be black, gray or tan. Then you can pick 1 or 2 accent colors. Many people choose white or cream and a brighter color. Plum and rust work well for Autumn.

Once you have decided on your color scheme, it’s easy to pick items that fit it. This not only helps you pair down the items that you are going to wear, but it also ensures that no matter what pieces you put together, they will match.

Add new pieces

Once you have sorted out your existing wardrobe to find the layers and colors that you want, it’s pretty easy to see what else you need. Then it’s time for the fun part- shopping!

Remember to shop with the items and the colors you have set in mind. Don’t let yourself get distracted by something because it’s pretty if it doesn’t fit into your scheme for that season. You can waste a lot of money that way, buying things that you are never going to wear.

Have a list of what you are looking for and compare prices on the internet before you buy.

Being a savvy shopper doesn’t always mean buying low-cost items. Remember if you are going to wear them all season, they will need to be of good quality to last. That is where looking for discounts from higher end stores like these Ralph Lauren coupons come in.

Accessories

Remember too, that while your outfits might be on the more simple side, you can spice them up with accessories. Statement necklaces are an inexpensive and bold way of adding interest to an outfit. Scarves also work well especially for the colder months, as they look great and keep you warm, making them a real value for money item.

You forgot 'discard those garments that you have grown too fat for'; doesn't happen to you probably.

I like the idea of basic colors. I've never been a fan of printed clothes. With a few good pieces, you can mix and match them up
