4th of July Almond Pretzel Bark Recipe

by Heather

It’s summertime! Summer break, 4th of July, Labor Day … Winter snow and spring rains are behind us and we’re into summer. Time for blistering sun and heat, crowded pools and beaches, overcrowded, sticky amusement parks and all the mosquitoes you could ask for.

Hmm, wait. Okay, so I’ll admit I’m more of a fan of Autumn and Winter. But summer does have its advantages. Summer is the time for sitting on the deck in the evening with a frosty cold adult beverage, cooling off at the pool with a frosty cold adult beverage (it’s really not that crowded when it’s in your back yard), and family cookouts. Ahhh, family cookouts: that special time of grilling, crazy relatives and corn on the cob. Oh, and frosty cold adult beverages.

Of course, part of the fun of a family cookout is getting to eat all those wonderful dishes that no one in your immediate family seems to know how to make except for great aunt Sally. Wouldn’t it be neat if you were the one with the great recipe? You could finally make great aunt Sally pay for all those comments on your attempts at potato salad and lemon meringue pie. I’m kidding of course, but not really, she will rue the day she disparaged my potato salad!

But even if you don’t want food revenge on a family member at a family gathering for some real or imagined slight from your past you can still bring a great new dish to your 4th of July family festivities. How about our amazing 4th of July Almond Pretzel Bark for instance? See our recipe below and you will soon be on the road to family gathering greatness that will be remembered through the ages. Or at least until Christmas when it’s time for our White Chocolate Haystacks or Holiday Party Mix.

Ingredients:

Pretzels

Almond Bark

Red & Blue Food Coloring

Sprinkles

4th of July Almond Pretzel Bark Directions:

After gathering all of your ingredients, you will first melt your almond bark on low heat. Once the almond bark starts to melt, remove from heat and keep stirring to melt it completely.

Add a few tablespoons of almond bark to two separate pans.

Dye one pan blue and one red with food coloring. Thin out your almond bark with vegetable shortening if it seizes up.

Line a cookie sheet with wax paper.

Break up pretzels and line the bottom of your cookie sheet with them.

Cover your pretzels with the melted white almond bark. Use a spoon to spread it out if necessary.

Dip a spoon into your red almond bark and drizzle across the white almond bark. Repeat with blue almond bark.

Add your sprinkles, allow bark to cool completely, break into pieces and enjoy!

This would be so great for the summer. I know my kids would really love this recipe too. I'll have to save it so I can make it come July!

Looks easy enough to make. I like that you change up the colors for various holidays...red & green for Christmas, orange & black for Halloween. Even make them in your school colors!
